Concert Band to present holiday concert

-

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Hot Springs Concert Band and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Hot Springs Village will present their Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Woodlands Auditorium.

The band performs the concert as a fundraiser for the work the Kiwanis club does promoting programs for area youths.

The concert will highlight Carl Maria von Weber’s “Concertino,” performed by the band’s new principal clarinetist, HSV resident Kathleen Joyner.

The remainder of the concert will include holiday tunes such as “Christmas Winds Overture,” which is a medley of “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “While by My Sheep (The Echo Carol),” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Patapan,” “Still, Still, Still,” and “Angels We Have Heard on High.”

“In the Christmas Mood” is a medley that contains “A Holly Jolly Christmas,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Let it Snow!”, “Frosty the Snowman,” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”

The African-American spiritual “Go Tell it on the Mountain,” receives a bluesy treatment that will remind listeners of spending Christmas in New Orleans.

An audience favorite, “The Chipmunk Song” by that hula-hooping Chipmunk, Alvin and his friends, is highlighted by band members playing on kazoos.

The band’s Christmas concert always ends in a holiday singalong in which Craig Hamilton conducts the audience.

Tickets are $12 and are available from any member of Kiwanis Club of Greater Hot Springs Village, online at http://www.hsvpoa.org/ event-tickets/ or at the Ponce de Leon box office on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
