Funeral home hosts guest book to honor Bush

- BETH REED

Gross Funeral Home, a member of the Dignity Memorial network of funeral homes, is offering a way for local residents to personally give their condolences to the Bush family following the death of President George H.W. Bush.

Gross Funeral Home is one of 2,800 funeral homes in the Dignity network — the company which has handled funeral arrangements for the Bush family following the patriarch’s death Friday — to receive a guest book for the public to pay their respects.

According to Justin Nicklas, general manager of Gross Funeral Home, the book was

set up Tuesday and will be available until Dec. 19.

“Dignity is serving the Bush family, so all Dignity funeral homes are providing these books for people to sign and send to our sister funeral home — Geo H. Lewis — in Houston,” Nicklas said. A few signatures have already been left in the guest book since it was set up, he said.

From there, the guest books will be taken to the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas, for the family.

Following services in Washington, D.C., Bush will be returned to Houston for burial Thursday at his family plot on the library grounds, according to The Associated Press. He will be placed alongside his wife of 73 years, Barbara Bush, and daughter, Robin, whom the couple lost to leukemia at age 3 in 1953.
