Man allegedly assaults pregnant girlfriend

A Hot Springs man was arrested on a felony warrant Tuesday morning for allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend last month, including kicking her in her side.

30, who lists an Oma Street address, was taken into custody around 9 a.m. at Garland County District Court and charged with third-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to six years in prison.

He was being held on

$10,000 bond and was set to appear Wednesday in district court for arraignment.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on Nov. 10, shortly before 8:30 a.m., Hot Springs police responded to Burnham’s Oma Street residence regarding a battery and made contact with a female victim outside the residence.

She stated she and her child’s father, identified as Burnham, were in an argument when he became physical with her. She said he drug her outside by her hair while repeatedly punching her in the head and face. Then he kicked her in her side while she was on the ground, she said.

Officers noted the victim had swelling to the left side of her face and abrasions to her right eye and left foot. The victim, who was visibly pregnant, was complaining of pain to her stomach and was later determined to be seven months pregnant.

The affidavit notes a piece of the victim’s hair weave was located in the yard where she was allegedly dragged. LifeNet responded to the scene, but the victim was transported by private vehicle to a local hospital.

A warrant for Burnham’s arrest was issued on Nov. 28. He was previously arrested for third-degree domestic battery involving the same victim on Sept. 28, 2017, and was set to stand trial May 17, but the victim repeatedly failed to appear at the hearings so the charge was eventually withdrawn.
