Gallery Walk set this Friday
The monthly Hot Springs Gallery Walk, 5-9 p.m. Friday, will showcase works of art created by local and visiting artists.
Featured artists are often present to discuss their pieces and guests have the opportunity to see a wide range of fine art.
The free “first Friday” event and opening receptions are open to the public.
Cultural, art experiences at Landmark Building
Several events are scheduled for January at the Landmark Building located at 201 Market St., including an artist’s demonstration the night of Gallery Walk.
“Limited Editions,” a printmaking exhibit, is on display through Feb. 22 at the Landmark Building and can be viewed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and by appointment on Saturday and Sunday. Call Donna Dunnahoe at 501-545-0534 or email donna@dunnahoe.com for more information.
Printmaker Daniel Adams will demonstrate woodblock printing at 6 p.m. Friday. Adams is the chair of the Department of Art and Design at Harding University. As an artist, Adams has used printmaking and woodcut, in particular, as natural ways of expression. “He is particularly fascinated with the way architecture speaks of human presence even with the absence of human figures in the works,” a news release said.
“Collecting Limited Editions,” a presentation with Debi Lynn Fendley, will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday. Information about what a collector needs to know before purchasing a print and the different types of printmaking will be given. Fendley works within cultural subgroups to produce both documentary and conceptual realism pieces in photography, printmaking, drawing and painting. She holds advanced degrees in art and English and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art from Goddard.
At 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, Erin Holliday will give a presentation about her experiences in the Hot Springs/Hanamaki Sister City artist exchange program, including her travels to Japan, where she explored its art and culture. From this experience, she created a fiber art installation, “Hikinuki,” the pulling of threads, which was installed in Hanamaki last November. Holliday is a native of Hot Springs and received a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute. She has worked in professional art installation, gallery management, art consulting, and historic restoration. She is the executive director for Emergent Arts, a nonprofit art organization that fosters creativity among emerging artists of all ages and abilities.
Hot Springs artist and printmaker Jeri Hillis will give a printmaking demonstration and presentation at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21. She studied printmaking at Mount Holyoke College, Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, Conn., and Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in France, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Haiti, the Netherlands Antilles, and the United States. She works as an artist in education with the Arkansas Arts Council and teaches after school programs and adult classes at Emergent Arts.
Artists’ Workshop Gallery holds annual Members Show
Artists’ Workshop Gallery, 610-A Central Ave., will feature 25 artists as part of its annual Members Show during Gallery Walk, from 5-9 p.m. Friday.
“This is your chance to get a snapshot view of the work of our 25 talented members in our Featured Artists section of the gallery,” a news release said.
Each artist was invited to submit one work for the display. “That can be quite a task — to select just one great work,” the release said. “Of course, one work never fully represents an artist’s entire body of work. Many of our artists — painters, watercolorists, sculptors, ceramicists, photographers and jewelers — work in a variety of styles and mediums as well as different sizes. Problem? Solved. Each artist still has their wall panel or 3D space in the gallery on which they display their work. Sometimes they emphasize variety, sometimes a theme, like landscape, abstract, recent work and more.”
For Gallery Walk, AWG welcomes the addition of two new artists to its membership — Katie Stanage, a recent graduate of Ouachita Baptist University and Jim Heinley, a resident of Hot Springs Village.
This month’s Featured Miniature Artists are two longtime members, June Lamoureux and Sherryl Nye. Continuing its feature on high school art, Hot Springs High School will be exhibiting a selection of its work in the gallery through February, in coordination with art teacher Shirley Tipton.
AWG also welcomes new officers for 2019: Jim Reimer, president; Pati Trippel, vice president; Bonnie Ricci, secretary; and Wendy Gage, treasurer. Elected and appointed committee leaders were also selected.
Artists’ Workshop Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
