Razorback commits lead high school football picks
Arkansas football commits Hudson Henry, Zach Williams and Malik Chavis headlined the 28-player Arkansas Sports Media High School Football Super Team announced this week, along with Little Rock Christian basketball prospect Justice Hill.
The Super Team was selected by a panel of sportswriters, sportscasters and other members of the state’s high school sports media. Henry, Williams and Chavis were three of four unanimous selections.
Chavis and Williams officially signed with the Razorbacks on Dec. 19, the first day of the early signing period. Chavis was a shutdown cornerback at Rison with
46 tackles and six pass breakups. Williams starred for Joe T. Robinson with
97 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, 17 sacks, five forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
Henry committed in October to Arkansas, where multiple members of his family previously played. The Pulaski Academy senior made 86 receptions this season for 1,207 yards and 14 touchdowns. He is expected to sign with the Razorbacks on Feb. 6.
Hill led Little Rock Christian past Pulaski Academy for the Class 5A state championship with 3,084 passing yards and 37 touchdowns to go with 1,000 rushing yards and 19 more scores. Hill will not play high school basketball his senior year and has already enrolled at Arkansas as a member of the basketball team.
The only other unanimous selection was Camden Fairview offensive lineman Stacey Wilkins, who signed with Oklahoma on Dec. 19. The four other senior offensive linemen named to the Super Team were Bryant’s Blaise Smith, Jonesboro’s Darius Thomas, Robinson’s Elliott Harris and Searcy’s Drew Vest.
The Super Team’s two running backs are Harrison junior Gabe Huskey and Bryant senior Latavion Scott. Huskey led the state with 2,150 yards and 33 touchdowns on 269 carries. He also caught 26 passes for 692 yards and seven touchdowns.
Scott received the first Darren McFadden High School Running Back of the Year Award presented by the Little Rock Touchdown Club on Thursday. He ran for 1,790 yards and 24 touchdowns on 255 carries.
The two receivers selections were Fayetteville junior Connor Flanigan and Pulaski Academy senior John David White. Flanigan caught 102 passes for 1,695 yards and 20 touchdowns.
White has been offered a preferred walk-on spot at Arkansas. He finished No. 2 unofficially in the nation with
30 receiving touchdowns and No. 12 in yardage with 1,732 on 86 receptions. He caught nine passes in the state championship game against Little Rock Christian at War Memorial Stadium for 200 yards and four touchdowns.
Arkadelphia senior and Harvard commitment Victor Tademy was voted to the Super Team at defensive back. He made
15 tackles and caught three interceptions as the Badgers won a second consecutive Class 4A state championship.
Batesville Southside senior safety Caden Huskey made the Super Team at defensive back with 136 tackles, two interceptions, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, a blocked field goal and a blocked punt.
Seniors selected as defensive linemen were Marcus Miller, Warren, 52 tackles; Kajuan Robinson, Bryant, 55 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss and eight sacks; and Noah Reyes, Booneville, 60 tackles, 25 tackles for a loss and three sacks.
Other senior linebackers selected were Timon Akins, Marion, 107 tackles; Darin Davenport, Fort Smith Southside,
125 tackles; Jariq Scales, Osceola, 113 tackles; and Kendall Young, Bentonville West, 99 tackles.
Greenwood senior Grant Ennis and Batesville senior Said Bernal were voted to the Super Team at kicker and punter, respectively. Ennis was 11-for-11 on field goal attempts this season with a long of
45 and hit 64 of 66 extra point attempts. Senior all-purpose selections were Derrick Wise, Fort Smith Northside; Chris Harris, Dumas; and Jordan Turner, Salem.
All members of the Super Team were voted All-State by coaches.
