Arkansas State Elks honor sheriff’s sergeant
Arkansas State Elks recently honored Sgt. Joshua Cannon of the Garland County Sheriff’s Department with the Enrique Camarena Award, the highest award given by the Elks to recognize law enforcement officers who have made a significant contribution in the field of drug prevention, and who personify Agent Camarena’s belief that one person can make a difference.
Cannon is the leader of the Special Operations Unit, instrumental in combating the sale, distribution and trafficking of narcotics, among other crimes, the Elks said in a news release.
Garland County Sheriff Mike McCormick, who nominated Cannon for the award, said that he is “an exemplary role model for other officers and for young people in Garland County” and that “our community is safer because of Sgt. Cannon.”
In addition to his responsibilities with the Special Operations Unit, Cannon is president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 26, volunteers with the Cooper Anthony Child Advocacy Center, and is coach of his daughter Lillie’s girls’ softball team.
Cannon will be recognized, and the award presented, at the Arkansas State Elks’ Spring Convention, which will be attended by Elks from across Arkansas.
