DTF board of directors plans to meet Tuesday

The 18th Judicial District East Drug Task Force Board of Directors will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Garland County Sheriff’s Department Conference Room, 525 Ouachita Ave.

CSO extends winter assistance program

The Community Services Office, 600 W. Grand Ave., has extended the winter assistance program to May 24.

Applicatio­ns will be taken from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Regular and crisis assistance will be available. If electric and gas are used, applicants must bring a copy of both bills. Applicants also need a photo ID and proof of income from the previous month.

Income sources include wages and salaries for all working-age adults living in the household, SSI, retirement and veteran’s benefits, unemployme­nt, workers’ compensati­on, pensions and annuities, foster care payments, contributi­ons, child support payments, self-employment income and HUD utility payments.

Weight loss support group to hold open house

TOPS Club Inc., or Take Off Pounds Sensibly, a nonprofit weight loss support organizati­on, will hold a free open house at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Maurice Room at National Park Medical Center, 1910 Malvern Ave.

The event is open to anyone sincerely interested in safely losing weight, ages preteen and up, a release said. Activities at the open house will include a motivation­al speaker, Valerie Brassel, as well as door prizes and refreshmen­ts.

Founded more than 70 years ago, TOPS is the only nonprofit, noncommerc­ial weight-loss organizati­on of its kind, offering an individual approach to weight loss and overall wellness, with thousands of chapters in the United States and Canada, the release said.

Visitors to a TOPS chapter are welcome to attend their first meeting free of charge and then membership is $32 a year, plus nominal chapter fees. For informatio­n about the open house, contact Charlene Morse at 501818-9018.

In the event of inclement weather, the open house will be held on April 4.
