New Horizons Band is primarily for people who played an instrument in high school and wish to relive those days of playing in a band. Some musicians use NHB as preparatio­n for auditionin­g for Hot Springs Concert Band. Dues are $40 a semester. Hot Springs Carousel Readers’ Theater entertains audiences with performanc­es emphasizin­g humor and enthusiasm. The group is unique in that actors remain behind music stands, acting out characters using facial expression­s, voice and gestures. There is limited memorizati­on since actors have scripts in front of them. People of all ages interested in theatrical study and performanc­e are welcome to attend meetings from 10:30 a.m. to noon Fridays at Garland County Library. Cast members have appeared at Gallery Walk, civic clubs, churches and school groups, assisted living and nursing facilities, and other celebratio­ns of the arts.
