Arkansas Fall Golf Classic benefiting ASMSA to be held Friday

The annual Arkansas Fall Golf Classic benefittin­g the Arkansas School for Mathematic­s, Sciences, and the Arts will be held Friday on the Park Course at the Hot Springs Country Club, 101 Country Club Drive.

The four-person scramble is being presented by The Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce. Entry fees are $600 a team or $150 per player. The entry includes greens and cart fees, lunch and tournament gifts.

There are also several sponsorshi­p opportunit­ies available. Most sponsorshi­ps include a complement­ary team in the tournament as well as other perks.

Check-in and lunch will be from 10:30-11:45 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon.

Current sponsors of the tournament include Relyance Bank, First Security Bank, Mid-America Science Museum, Aladdin Food Management Services and Gross Funeral Home.

Local student named President’s Ambassador

MAGNOLIA — Senior agricultur­e business major Leah Nix, of Malvern, was recently named one of 30 students chosen to be a President’s Ambassador for the 2019-20 academic year at Southern Arkansas University.

Students are selected by a committee after being nominated, submitting an applicatio­n and interviewi­ng with committees consisting of organizati­on sponsors, staff, faculty and President’s Ambassador­s. Applicants must have a cumulative 2.85 G.P.A. with at least 30 completed college credit hours.

President’s Ambassador­s are the official student representa­tives for SAU and serve as hosts at a variety of University events, and provide tours for prospectiv­e students, parents, and other distinguis­hed guests. They also assist the division of Enrollment Services in contacting prospectiv­e students by telephone and by mail. President’s Ambassador­s receive a $1,600 scholarshi­p per semester.
