Naturalist Belinda Jonak to present ‘Trees of Arkansas’ program on Oct. 19 in library auditorium
Belinda Jonak, master naturalist and Garland County Library circulation clerk, will present the program “Trees of Arkansas” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, in the library auditorium, 1427 Malvern Ave.
The program is free to attend, but registration is required.
Participants will become more familiar with the native trees of Arkansas. Fun facts and identifying features will be included in a visual presentation showing selected examples of Arkansas’ arboreal flora.
“Belinda’s plant and animal programs have become very popular at the library,” Adult Services Programmer Paul Kagebein said in a news release. “She’s able to educate and entertain her audience with fascinating scientific information and her unorthodox sense of humor.”
To date, Jonak has presented on mammals, snakes, fish, birds and insects of Arkansas at the library.
Jonak has been a member of the Diamond Lakes Chapter of the Master Naturalists for over six years. She has completed several community service projects and has taught and attended dozens of educational programs about Arkansas native plants and animals. Her past experience includes time as a teacher of biology and zoology at National Park College, a docent at the Waikiki Aquarium in Honolulu, Hawaii, and an employee of the Fort Worth Zoo. Jonak has been employed at the Garland County Library since 1999 and is “an avid reader of all things quirky,” the release said.
