Lakeside routs Hope for homecoming, 58-6

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Lakeside continued its winning streak Friday night as the Rams rolled over Hope to take a 58-6 victory at Chick Austin Field.

“We had a fantastic night,” Lakeside head coach Jared McBride said. “It was homecoming, and we got started fast with an opening kickoff return for a touchdown by Chase Cross and then kicked off to Hope. Chance Cross stripped the ball from the runner, and we returned that for a touchdown so 14 points in about 20 seconds, so it was a great start for us.”

Logan White, returning from an injury, and Chase Cross tallied one touchdown catch each for the night. Isaac Echols had a touchdown run. The Rams (5-2, 3-1 5A South) also scored twice on defense with Chance Cross getting a pick-six and Austin Brooks scooping up a Bobcats fumble for a TD.

The Rams go on the road Friday to face the De Queen Leopards (0-7, 0-4), and McBride looks forward to seeing his team improve every week.

“Our conference has proven to be very tough,” he said. “It’s gonna take some wins to get in position for the playoffs. We kinda control our own destiny, so if we win our games we’re conference champs so that’s what our goal is.”
