- STEVEN MROSS

A local man was arrested early Monday after allegedly assaulting his wife, shooting at her and then barricading himself inside his house until Hot Springs police used tear gas to force him out, police said in a release.

Glasper Brown, 42, of 206 Rocky Reef Circle, was taken into custody outside his house around 7:45 a.m. and later charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor count of third-degree domestic battery.

Brown was being held on zero bond and is set to appear Nov. 5 in Garland County District Court, although he will likely be arraigned before then. He also had a zero bond hold on him out of Grant County.

Officers responded to the Rocky Reef Circle residence at 4:48 a.m. Monday regarding a domestic disturbance with shots fired, the release said. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a female victim, 39, who stated her husband, identified as Brown, had hit her and then shot a pistol at her.

Officers made numerous attempts to get Brown to exit the house, but he refused to comply with orders. The police SWAT team responded to the scene and also attempted to get Brown to peacefully surrender, the release said.

After several tries, SWAT team members deployed tear gas into the house shortly after 7:30 a.m. At approximately 7:41 a.m., Brown emerged from the house and officers made contact with him outside and took him into custody without injury.

Cpl. Joey Williams said Monday Brown was initially taken to a hospital to be checked, but later released and taken into custody.

During the investigation, a 9-mm handgun and two spent casings were found, the release said.

According to court records, Brown’s wife had filed a petition for an order of protection against Brown on July 11, 2019, alleging he first wouldn’t let her leave to go to work and then threw her out of the house and stole her phone, noting she was “scared for my life.” She later filed to dismiss the petition and the case was closed.
