Reddies hit 15 treys in rout of Paul Quinn

ARKADELPHI­A — Four Reddies finished in double-digits as Henderson State tied a school record with 15 3-pointers for a 103-63 victory over Paul Quinn College Saturday.

The Reddies (6-1) pushed out to a commanding

22-5 lead in the first nine minutes of HSU’s final home stand of the calendar year. The Tigers (1-7) pulled within 11 points after a 6-0 run over the next two minutes, but the Reddies stretched out to

29-point lead without allowing the visitors to get closer than 13 points before a 48-21 halftime lead. Paul Quinn shot just 27.6% over the first half while the Reddies hit 47.4%.

Henderson shot 20 for 29 in the second half (68.9%) while stretching its lead out to as much as 41 points en route to the win.

Anthony Lupardus hit five of the Reddies 3-pointers for a game-high 19 points while Chris Parker and Matt Roberts added three more treys each. Raekwon Rogers finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds, Parker had 17 with 7 assists and Rel Johnson added 14.

HSU was 10-of-16 from 3-point range in the second half on Saturday and shot 56.7% from the floor for the game. The win is Henderson’s third 30-plus point victory in just seven contests this year.

Henderson will travel to Searcy on Saturday for its next contest against Harding at 7:30 p.m.

SAU 83, Missouri S&T 76

SPRINGFIEL­D, Mo. — A 9-2 run by the Muleriders (3-4) over the final 1:53 proved to be enough to down the Miners (1-4) at the Doubletree Classic at Drury University.

The Muleriders held a 12-point advantage with

7:43 left in the contest before the Miners sank four

3-pointers over the next 4:28 to pull within 74-71. A three-point play knotted the score as Dawson Berry’s and-one went in, but other than two free throws with

29 seconds remaining, Missouri S&T was scoreless while SAU cruised to the win.

SAU jumped out to an early 5-2 lead before the Miners hit a 19-8 run to push out to a 10-point lead with 12:12 remaining in the first half. A three-point play by Devante Brooks and a fastbreak layup by Trey Davis cut the deficit in half by the 9:31 mark, but Missouri S&T kept their lead near 8 points until a 6-0 run left the Muleriders trailing 27-25 with 4:55 left.

Missouri S&T pushed back out to a 9-point lead before a 3-pointer by Aaron Lucas pulled SAU within 41-35 at the break. The Muleriders opened the second half on a 15-3 run over the first 4:51 to take control of the game.

The Miners shot 46.2% (12 of 26) from behind the arc on a night that they shot just 44.6% (25 of 56) from the floor. SAU was held to 31 for 67 from the field and 28.6% (4 of 14) from 3-point range.

Brooks put up a game-leading 25 points with 17 rebounds, Lucas added 20, and Jalen Brooks had 12.

SAU will travel to Arkadelphi­a on Saturday to take on Ouachita Baptist at 3 p.m.

OBU 89, CBC 69

ARKADELPHI­A — Eric Brown put up a game-leading 19 points as the Tigers (2-4) blew past the Mustangs (5-3) at Bill Vining Arena.

Leading 42-32 at the half, the Tigers pushed out to a 22-point lead with nine minutes off the clock in the second half en route to their 20-point win.

Raymond Harris put up 15 for OBU in just 14 minutes on the floor, and Matt Stanley added 10 points in 15 minutes of gameplay. Lake Hamilton grad Larenz Nero was 4-for-4 from the line with 6 points on the day in his fifth start for the Tigers this season.

Simon Okolue led the Mustangs with 17 points, Tyrone Alston had 14, and Jalen Adams 13.

OBU will host SAU on Saturday at 3 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL OBU 76, WBU 52

ARKADELPHI­A — Ouachita Baptist’s women got things rolling quickly as the Tigers (2-5) powered past the Eagles (6-1).

The Tigers opened the game on a 16-4 run over the first six minutes, pushing out to as much as 15

points before taking a 23-9 lead into the second period. An 8-4 run by Williams Baptist cut its deficit down to 10, but the Tigers closed out the half on a 12-4 run for a 39-21 halftime lead.

OBU never let the Eagles get closer than 14 points in the second half while shooting 43.3% from the field (13 of 30) in the final 20 minutes. The Tigers hit 28 of 62 from the field (45.2%) on the day but struggled from distance with just 6 of 22 (27.3%) from 3-point range.

Maija Gertsone led the Tigers with 17 points and a game-leading 5 assists, Madison Brittain added 14 with 6 rebounds, Eden Crow had 13 with 6 boards and Makayla Miller 12 with 8 rebounds.

Tasia Bland led the Eagles with 12 points off the bench while Taylor Freeman added 11.

OBU will host SAU on Saturday at 1 p.m.
