HSU professor to address NSDAR chapter
Mary Beth Trubitt, a professor at Henderson State University, will present the program “Archeology & Caddo Indian History in the Ouachita Mountains” at Thursday’s meeting of the NSDAR John Percifull Chapter at West Shores Retirement Community, 2607 Albert Pike.
The lunch at West Shores includes a salad, main course, dessert and drink for $10. Attendees are asked to bring cash to pay for their meal to simplify things. The meeting begins with the Ritual at 11 a.m. with lunch served at noon.
Trubitt came to Arkadelphia in 2000 after earning her Ph.D. in anthropology from Northwestern University, a news release said. She conducts archeological research in southwest Arkansas, teaches anthropology courses in the Department of Sociology, Human Services/Social Work, and Criminal Justice at HSU, and works with community members interested in local history and archeology.
Trubitt’s recent projects include investigating novaculite quarries and stone tool production in the Ouachita Mountains, and documenting Caddo Indian pottery, foodways, and mound building at sites along the Ouachita River. The Arkansas Archeological Survey is publishing her new book, “Ouachita Mountains Archeology,” this winter.
