2020.

James W. Harrington
James Waldon Harrington, age 90, of Hot Springs and Arkadelphia, Ark., ended his earthly journey April 21, 2020.
Known to most as Mr. H, he was an accomplished businessman in both banking and construction. Mr. H started Harrington Construction Co. Inc. in
1967 and had an extensive career in commercial and residential construction across the state of Arkansas. Aided by his construction superintendent of 50 years, Wayne Anderson, Mr. H was best known for the development of residential neighborhoods and apartment communities in Arkadelphia.
After a successful construction business, he branched out into banking in 1984 when he bought the majority share of stock in Elk Horn Bank and Trust. In 1987, he sold his majority share to Southern Bancorp. Mr. H was vice president of National Home Builders in
1983, 1984, chairman of National Council for the Multifamily Housing Industry in 1987, started the NAHB Clark County Chapter in 1971, president of Arkansas Home Builders in
1981, president of Arkadelphia Chamber of Commerce in 1986, a Wild Hog contributor from
1978 till present and was an avid Razorback fan. While Mr. H was a very accomplished businessman, his lifelong passion was his yard. His 5-acre lakefront home is covered in
40-plus years of azaleas and dogwoods and is a tribute to his green thumb.
Mr. H is preceded in death by his wife, Clara Harrington, whom he traveled the world with; his parents, Bill and Eunice Harrington; and sister, Julia Voss.
He is survived by daughters Lori Stewart (Randy) and Rhonda Harrington. Grandchildren who affectionately called him Pepaw, Jake Jones, Spenser O’Brien (Dustin) and Holly Riggs (Brian). Great-grandchildren Hudson Jones, Alexis Green, Braydon Tillman, Trenton Tillman and Myers O’Brien, who knew Mr. H as Crabpaw. Mr. H is also survived by his longtime friend and household manager, Sylvia Brazil.
