‘Thanks’ given to health workers

- CASSIDY KENDALL

National Hospital Week, which is observed annually May 10-15, this year afforded the community the opportunity to thank health care workers for their heroism, which is being showcased daily as they work on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As our community continues the fight against COVID-19, the pivotal role our health care workers play in the well-being of society is clearer than ever,” Joann Ettien, National Park Medical Center in

terim CEO, said in a news release. “Their tireless efforts on the front lines of this disease and their commitment to quality care and patient safety year-round are critical to our mission of Making Communities Healthier. We proudly honor these heroes during National Hospital Week and commend their inspiring efforts to serve others.”

National Hospital Week provides an opportunity to “pause and honor the millions of health care professionals who dedicate their lives to taking care of people in their greatest times of need, and to recognize the positive difference hospitals and health care organizations make in the communities they serve.”

“As we celebrate National Hospital Week amid unprecedented challenges this year and begin to look to the future, we are aware that health care — like other aspects of life — might look a little different,” Ettien said. “What will not change, though, is our mission and our commitment to this community. We will continue to put the health and well-being of our neighbors first, ensuring safe places of care and a healthier community for us all.”

CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs President Dr. Douglas Ross said in an email that health care workers are “pillars of support” in the community and the hospital.

“As they continue to care for patients (during the pandemic), we’re doing everything we can to care for them,” Ross said. “In this challenging time when they’re quite literally on the front line caring for the sickest of patients, their response and eagerness to step up to the challenge and care for their community has been truly inspirational.”

He said health care workers are “truly at the heart” of CHI St. Vincent’s healing ministry, and the “outpouring of support” they have received from their friends and neighbors in Hot Springs has given them the strength to continue providing compassionate care for those in need.

“Our relationship with Hot Springs, Garland County and the communities across southwest Arkansas that we serve could not be stronger,” Ross said. “… They know our incredible health care providers are here to care for them, and we want to assure those in our community that we will continue to be there for them throughout this moment and beyond.”
