HSV Rotary responds to local COVID-19 needs

-

At its May 8 virtual meeting, Hot Springs Village Rotary Club president John Weidert presented a report from the co-chairs of the club’s grants committee, Paul Bridges and Corinne White.

According to their report, “HSV Rotary capped off a generous 2019/2020 year by awarding a total of $15,000 in grants. Last fall,

$5,140 of those grants were distributed to eight applicants. The remaining

$9,860 is currently being dispersed to an additional 10 recipients under the club’s spring 2020 grants cycle.”

Bridges said that the

COVID-19 pandemic “dramatically altered” criteria for spring

2020 grants, a news release said.

“Recognizing the critical food and medical supply shortages prompted by the pandemic, the grants committee focused heavily on those needs,” he said in the release.

The grant checks are currently being distributed in order to get them into the hands of those in need, Bridges said. Recipients this spring include Cedar Mountain Boys & Girls Club, Faith Fellowship Food Pantry, Garland County Search and Rescue, Great Futures, HSV Police, Mountain Pine Schools’ Community Fund, Project HOPE, and #SupportSpaCity.

Some of the projects being funded that relate to COVID-19 relief include support for local residents, thermometers, medical supplies, two-way radios, and matching food vouchers along with food supplies and a freezer in which to store them.

The next Rotary grants cycle will begin next fall. Details are available on the club’s website or from any Rotarian.
