Vapors charity event approved by state

The Legendary Vapors’ return to live events has been approved by the state for a charity event featuring an Eagles tribute band, The Long Run, on Saturday.

Tom Wilkins, executive manager at the Vapors, told The Sentinel-Record they are excited to be hosting the event, which will benefit the building of an orphanage in Migori, Kenya, noting, “everything seems to be falling in place.”

Hot Springs National Park Rotary Club is sponsoring the orphanage this year, in addition to an orphanage in Manilla, Philippines, according to its weekly newsletter. Rotarian Rollin Caristianos, who works closely with “One Block at a Time,” the orphanage in Kenya, has been planning Saturday’s event.

Saturday’s event will be the first the Vapors has hosted since the COVID-19 pandemic started. As the pandemic is still ongoing, the organizers had to show the state it would be a clean and safe event.

Wilkins said there will be many procedures in place to help prevent the spread of the virus, noting, “First of all, people are going to be asked to bring masks.” Those people without masks will not be allowed to enter the building and those who do enter will have their temperature taken with a forehead thermometer, he said.

If the guests “have a fever of any kind, they will not be allowed to enter,” he said.

Once inside, guests will be asked four or five questions,

Wilkins said, noting they will be looking for any warning signs with the questions. After this, each guest will have to write their name and contact information “so we know who attended” in case there is an incident with the coronavirus, he said.

He also noted the “health department would like to know how many” attendees there were.

Once inside, guests “will be escorted to tables or chairs,” which Wilkins said will be “socially distant.”

The tables will be cleaned throughout the show, as will the restrooms, he said, and they will limit the number of people in the restrooms at one time. Wilkins said the women’s restroom is larger than the men’s, so they will likely limit the number of women in a restroom at four and the number of men at two.

Hand sanitizer will also be available in the building.

According to the Rotary newsletter, The Long Run will perform at 6 p.m. and again at 9 p.m. There will be a live auction at 8 p.m., in between the two shows with eight to 10 items. For more information on the concerts, call Caristianos at 501318-8782 or visit http://www. OneBlockataTimeKenya.com.

Wilkins said the show at 6 p.m. will be limited to 150 people, and if it sells out, the second performance will be added at

9 p.m. VIP front row seats are

$100, reserve seats are $75 and general admission is $50.
