Wilma C. Adcock

Wilma Catherine Adcock, 95, of Hot Springs, Ark., passed away July 15, 2020. She was born Jan. 10, 1925, in Neshoba County, Miss., to Leslie and Essie Pearl Winstead.

Survivors include her husband of 78 years, the Rev. Grady Adcock; sons, Ralph Adcock (Carol) and Roland Adcock (Gwen); brother, Tommy Winstead; sisters, Beth Howington and Ann Walker; grandchild­ren, Brent Adcock, DeWayne Adcock (Sherry), Bryan Adcock (Jennifer) and Emily White (Jeff); and great-grandchild­ren, Eli and Maddy White, Drew, Luke, Cate and Landon Adcock.

Richard J. Anthoni

Richard “Rich” Jacob Anthoni, also known as “Pops”, went to be with the Lord on July 17, 2020.

Rich was born in Paris, Texas, on Nov. 10, 1946, to the late Margaret and Ed Anthoni. He was also proceeded by his stepfather, Vaughn Pistole; and his brother, Robert Anthoni.

A 1965 graduate of Warren High School, Rich was a proud Lumberjack. After graduating he attended the University of Monticello, was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity, and served in the Arkansas National Guard.

Rich moved to Pine Bluff after college to start a career with the Cotton Belt Railroad. He retired in the late 80’s. Rich loved to cook and never went by a recipe, but the food was always delicious.

In 1998 he moved to Hot Springs to commit his time to family while being a member of the Thompson Hunting Deer Club. An avid hunter, fisherman, and Razorback fan (who loved to call the Hogs), Rich loved to duck hunt with his son, Jason. He and Jason were able to float the Arkansas River one last time on Father’s Day.

Rich was the proud grandpa of Rhett and Jax. Traveling to Fayettevil­le to watch his grandsons play football and baseball was one of his greatest joys. He was of Baptist Faith. Survivors include his daughter, Dana Anthoni Boreing (Brad), of Fayettevil­le, Ark.; his son, Jason Anthoni, of Little Rock, Ark.; his grandsons, Rhett and Jax; and a host of friends he considered family.

A Gathering of Friends and Family will be hosted by Gross Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2020.

Judith A. Beck

ROYAL — Judith Ann Beck, 84, of Royal, passed away July 10, 2020. She was born Jan. 9, 1936, in Weller Township, Ill., to Theodore and Katherine Johnson. Judith was the founder and owner of Suburban Sanitation.

She is predecease­d by her parents; husband, Patrick Earl Beck, whom she married in 1953; her son, Michael Jon Beck; and grandson, Eric Beck.

Loving survivors include daughter, Kim (Kent) Teague; brother, Theodore Allan Johnson; four grandchild­ren; and eight great-grandchild­ren.

Rodney K. Binns

Rodney K. Binns, 59, of Hot Springs, went to be with his Lord and Savior and to join his beloved mother and maternal grandmothe­r, Izetta Vogt, on July 16, 2020. He was born Aug. 31, 1960, in Little Rock, to the late Kenneth and Mary Binns.

Loving survivors include his wife of 28 years, Melody Diane (Meek) Binns; her family; and his cousins.

Glenda S. M. Bonney

Glenda Sharon McMurrough Bonney, 75, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., passed away July 15, 2020.

She was born Dec. 31, 1944, in Del Rio, Texas, to James Glen McMurrough and Alma Vincent Parker. Mrs. Bonney was a fan of Portland Trail Blazer basketball; she enjoyed going to the movies, out to eat with her friends, shopping and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Bonney is survived by her spouse, Barry Donner; two sisters, Mary Jane Marten, of Hot Springs Village, and Bonnie Mayer and husband Dickie, of Pearland, Texas; and numerous nieces; nephews; and cousins.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2020, at Liberty Baptist Church in Buckner, Ark., with Brother Adam Rogers officiatin­g under the direction of A.O. Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time, Monday, July 20, 2020, at the Church. Pallbearer­s will be Dickie Mayer, Aston McGlone, Paul Marten and Barry Donner.

Patricia A. Bridges

Patricia Ann Bridges went to meet the Lord on July 13, 2020.

Patricia was born in Denver, Colo., on Dec. 1, 1950, to George and Eileen Schilling. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Mary Kay McCarron; and many friends.

She enjoyed the outdoors and gardening, as well as contributi­ng to her community through volunteer work at the local Senior Center, Meals on Wheels, along with Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. When she was able, she attended North Malvern Assembly of God. She loved reading and studying God’s word. Most of all she loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, bream fishing, and watching her grandchild­ren grow.

She is survived by two brothers, Mike (Martha) Schilling and George (Linda) Schilling; the love of her life for 32 years, Dwight Bridges; three children, Brady (Nic) Lyod-Smith, James (Elizabeth) Roberts and Susie (Jose) Padro; seven grandchild­ren, Chase (Sadie) Westbrook, Nicole and Andrew Burek, Aly-Jo and Cathryn Lyodsmith, and Kimberly Padro; four great-grandchild­ren; and many extended family members and friends. A celebratio­n of life will be announced at a later time.

Mary L. Burgess

On Monday, July 13, 2020, the angels came to pick a beautiful flower out of His garden name Mary Louise “Mary Jo” Burgess. She was born May 3, 1939 in Hot Springs, Ark., to John Marberry and Elizabeth Jackson.

Mary was a 1959 graduate of the Historic Langston High School. She worked for many years at the Arlington Hotel & Spa (bathhouse clerk), Vapors (Cocktail waitress) and finishing her career at the Job Training Partnershi­p Act (JTPA) Agency until she retired in 1995.

She is preceded in death by her aforementi­oned parents; two grandsons, Rafael D. Evans and Tyrone McAfee (Foote); three brothers, Edgar Lee Atwater Sr. Milton Atwater Jr. and Joe Langford; cousin, Aaron “Sonny Boy” Blackwell and cousin/sister, Claudine “Moran” Mason.

Those who will forever keep her memory etched in their hearts include two daughters, Anita L. Evans-Davis (Ozark, Ark.), and Loletia (Opy) Lainhart (Hot Springs, Ark.); three sons, Lee Wesley Foote (Hot Springs, Ark.), Wendell (Kristy) Foote (Hot Springs, Ark.), and Bryian “Bougie” Foote (Pine Bluff, Ark.); father of her children and Best friend, Levell Foote Sr.; 19 grandchild­ren;

39 great-grandchild­ren; four great-great-grandchild­ren; a bonus love daughter, Lisa Regina (Willie) Wade Jr. and family; bonus children, Irene Foote and Levell (Sonya) Foote Jr.; very special sister, Johnnie Jean Booker; Close Friend, Betty Giles; Dear cousin, MRuth Goshen; Cousin/Sister, Cecilia Johnson; a host of other extra children, grandchild­ren; loving nieces; nephews; cousins and extended family; and friends.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, July 20, at Hot Springs Funeral Home. The visitation will be conducted under

Covid-19 guidelines, restrictin­g the number of people to 100 at a time in the Chapel and masks are required for entrance.

George T. Carrithers

George Theodore “Ted” Carrithers died on July 16, 2020, following a brief illness.

Ted was born on May 19, 1929, to George Theodore and Elta Marie Hamm Carrithers in Brazil, Ind. A graduate of Broad Ripple High School in Indianapol­is, he attended Arizona State University and graduated from Indiana State University, where he met and married Ann Nuttall on Dec. 10, 1955.

Predecease­d by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Ann; daughters, Lisa Denise Moore (Harold), of Groveland, Fla., Kelly Ann Mahoney (Brook), of Greenwood Village, Colo.; son, Timothy Theodore Carrithers (Tammy), of League City, Texas; daughter, Carol Jane Poole (Bert), of Greensboro, N.C.; grandsons, Dr. Jason Coleman (Rachel), of Gainsville, Fla., Ryan Coleman (Taryn), of Atlanta, Ga., Tyler Hooper (Beth), of Dickinson, Texas, Ross Carrithers (Callie), of Houston, Texas, Hunter Carrithers (Tatiana), of Dallas, Texas, Andrew Mahoney (Jordan), of Greenwood Village, Colo., Spencer Mahoney (Maude), of Denver, Colo.; granddaugh­ter, Emily Moore, of Groveland, Fla.; great-grandchild­ren, Avery, Charlotte and Jayce Coleman, Mikayla, Mikail, Mayana and C.J. Moore, Charley Mahoney, Palmer Mahoney, Jack and Luke Hooper, and Harlee Carrithers.

While at Broad Ripple High School in Indianapol­is, Ind., he attained the ranking of Eagle Scout. His interest in scouting inspired him to lead Scout troops in several communitie­s to which he was transferre­d during his working career.

Ted lettered in swimming at Indiana State University. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Okinawa during the Korean Conflict.

Following college, he was employed at DX Oil Company and later managed Lion Oil operations in a five-state area. He retired in 1985 from Tosco Oil Company as their marketing manager. He was the owner of A&T Corporatio­n, a bottled water distributo­r, which he sold in 2000.

He served on the board of the local YMCA, Friends of the Park, was a former member of National Park Rotary Club, First United Methodist Church and Friendship Sunday School class. He began the bus ministry to assist with transporta­tion for those who wished to attend church. After researchin­g his family history, he was initiated as a Son of the American Revolution. As a charter member of Garvan Woodland Gardens, he enjoyed several years as a volunteer train engineer.

Swimming 80 laps on his 80th birthday was a proud achievemen­t for Ted. He competed in Senior Olympic swimming events in Arkansas, Arizona and Florida, and holds the state of Arkansas freestyle swimming record in the 65-70 age group in the Arkansas Senior Games.

Family and friends remember Ted’s love of tennis, music, dancing and attempts at storytelli­ng.

An inurnment service will be held with family only at the First United Methodist Columbariu­m.

Melanie R. DeWitt

Melanie Rene DeWitt, age 42, of Hot Springs, died, Friday, July 17, 2020.

She was born on April 18, 1978, in Shreveport, La., the daughter of Robert Eugene DeWitt and Madeline Rabon Dewitt, who both preceded her in death.

Melanie was a very happy person and was always saying she loved you when she was on the phone or in person. Melanie had a free spirit, she loved any kind of excitement and having fun, anything outdoors, camping, water sports, but especially fishing. She was always there to help a friend or anyone in need. Her greatest love was her family and friends. She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Melanie is survived by her girlfriend, Julie Beard, of Hot Springs; her two sisters and brothers-in-law, Monica and Richard Madrigal, and Kelly and Steven Strother, all of Shreveport, La.; her beloved nieces and nephews, Taylor and Tony Thompson, Austin and Sandy DeWitt, Erin and Derek Batts, Macy DeWitt, Baleigh Madrigal and Jacob Wakefield; her great-nephew, Lincoln Batts; her great-niece, Adlee DeWitt; extended family members; many good friends;her fur babies, Gracie and Stevie; and her special friends, Cody Hanson, Christophe­r and Brandon Thomason.

There will be a Memorial Service in Shreveport, La., which will be announced at a later date.

Thomas L. Hodges

Thomas Leighton Hodges went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, the 14th of July 2020. Tommy was born to the late Charles G. and Helen F. Hodges on the 1st of September

1942, in Dallas, Texas. After moving to Arkansas, Tommy attended and graduated from Hot Springs High School, where he excelled academical­ly and athletical­ly. He went on to continue his education at the University of Arkansas at Fayettevil­le, where he received a Bachelor of Science from J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. While at Arkansas, Tommy was an active member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, which gave him a bond of brotherhoo­d that he continued to support with his gifts and services throughout his adult life. He finished his education at the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a Masters Degree in Urban and City Planning.

Upon graduation, Tommy began his career in Little Rock as a land planner with Manes and Associates. He then founded Urban Planning and Developmen­t Corporatio­n in the late

1960s and was instrument­al in redesignin­g the Fayettevil­le Town Square. For the next 20 years, he was involved in residentia­l, multi-family and commercial developmen­ts across the country, including his community developmen­t, Otter Creek. In 1994, work began on his largest project to date, Gateway Town Center, which is anchored by Bass Pro Shop and the Outlets of Little Rock. His perseveran­ce and leadership not only led to tremendous success, but also fostered an amazing legacy that endures to this day.

Tommy served as a member of the Board of Directors of Pulaski Bank and Trust, the Board of Directors for the Boys Club of Little Rock, the Board of Directors for the City of Little Rock Planning Commission, chairman of Pulaski County Heart Associatio­ns Harvest Ball, a member of the Urban Land Institute, a member of the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce, member of the Little Rock Rotary Club and a member of the Razorback Foundation. As an active member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, he served as a member of the Board of Stewards and the finance committee. Tommy was a longtime member of the Country Club of Little Rock, where you could find him golfing on any given day, that is, unless there were ducks flying.

In 2016, Tommy began serving on the National Sigma Alpha Epsilon Financial and Housing Corporatio­n Board of Directors, where he held positions of treasurer, vice president and, at the time of his passing, president. He was past president of the SAE University of Arkansas Housing Corporatio­n and chairman of the house renovation for the University of Arkansas chapter. He was awarded by SAE with the Order of Minerva and the Merit Key for dedication to improving chapter facilities across the realm.

Tommy is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Carol Beebe Hodges; his two daughters, Catherine Elizabeth Hodges and Anne Hodges Kashata; Anne’s husband, Kristopher Jarrett Kashata; and his three grandsons: Kristopher Harrison Kashata, Alexander Thomas Kashata and Walker Anderson Kashata, all of Dallas, Texas, who knew and loved him as their Papa. He is also survived by his brother, John Charles Hodges, of Hot Springs, Ark.; and his nieces and nephews.

Always the optimist, Tommy lived his life to the fullest. His positive attitude was contagious and he never met a stranger. His quiet faith in the Lord guided him throughout his years. He will be deeply missed by all the lives he touched. He was a true gentleman and a great role model for all of us, especially his grandsons. His loss is deeply felt, but his legacy will endure and he will be with us forever.

James S. Myrick

James Sherron Myrick, 79, of Hot Springs, Ark., passed away July 16, 2020. He was born Oct. 19, 1940, in Nashville, Ark., to Alfred and Chloe (Duckett) Myrick. James was a greeter at Ten Mile Missionary Baptist Church and proudly spent 37 years serving his country in the U.S. Army.

James was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Pat McGill Myrick; very special granddaugh­ter, Sionna Turbyfill-Gray (John); great-grandchild­ren, Karina and Kierra Sherman; sons, Stewart Myrick, Jason Myrick; stepson, Steven Turbyfill; granddaugh­ter, Kerri Douberly; daughter-inlaw, Diana Douberly; son-in-law, Marvin Douberly; and brother, Tommy Myrick.

A celebratio­n of James’ life will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Price Cemetery. Masks will be required and social distancing will be practiced. If you need a seat, please bring one.

Bill Runyan

Bill Runyan, 83, went to be with his loving wife of 47 years, Wanda Runyan.

Bill was born Feb. 6, 1937, to Clark and Marge Runyan of Amity, Ark.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nelda(Red) Wood and Mary Francis (Paul) Berry; and granddaugh­ter, Alicia Hughes.

Those left to cherish his memories are his sons, Dale Runyan (Gina) and Billy Dean Runyan (Robin); daughter, Nona Cosby (Dave); brother, Bob Runyan; grandchild­ren, Cole Runyan, Levi Runyan, Maeghan Runyan, Melissa Barton and Leah Hunt; his great-grandchild­ren, River Runyan, Jaxon Runyan, Cameron Betts, Corey Betts, Michael Hughes, Hannah Hughes, Bryan Hunt, Austin Hunt, Nona Crumpton, Mackenzie Hunt and Lily Crumpton; his loving Yorkie, Bella; and his best friend and granddaugh­ter, Kimberly Crumpton.

He spent many years as a mill right and carpenter, but his favorite thing was being a lifelong shade tree mechanic. He hardly found anything that he couldn’t fix and found pure joy in it. It was through this that he made many memories with his friends and his grandchild­ren.

Robert L. Veazey

MAGNET COVE — Robert Leon Veazey, 80, of Magnet Cove, passed from this life into eternity on July 13, 2020, under the compassion­ate care of Arkansas Hospice, and with his family by his side. He was born in Hot Springs, Ark., on Aug. 6, 1939, to William A. and Josie L. Veazey.

Robert was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Denise Anne Veazey; his parents, William A. and Josie L. Veazey; and his sisters, Dorothy Veazey Malone, Nora Veazey McCoy, Alma Veazey Hill, Lucille Veazey Yates and Mary Veazey Scharf; and brothers, William A., William K., Charles C. and Patrick S. Veazey.

Mr. Veazey is survived by his amazing and loving wife, Patricia M. (Smoke) Veazey; sons, Anthony A. Simmons and Dennis A. Veazey; daughter, Cynthia L. Veazey; granddaugh­ter, Jordan E. Simmons; grandson, Tyler J. Daniel; and great-grandsons, Asher and Hazen Ozment.

Robert spent 30 plus years with Reynolds Metals as a cable tester prior to his retirement. He also served his country overseas with a short tour in the United States Air Force. If you knew him even a little you were aware of his love for golf, time spent fishing on Lake Ouachita, and his passion for deer hunting.
