A property damage wreck at an area gas station early Monday led to the arrest of a local man on multiple felony charges after a large quantity of drugs and over $1,700 in cash were reportedly found in his possession.
Dafavioun Keion Haywood, 20, who lists an Ebony Way address, was taken into custody shortly after 3 a.m. and charged with possession of a controlled substance, Xanax, with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, with purpose to deliver, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, each punishable by up to six years, and a warrant for failure to appear.
Haywood, who lists no prior felony history, was being held on a $12,500 bond and was set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly before 3 a.m., Garland County sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Hampton responded to the Roadrunner Shell station, 3039 Albert Pike, regarding a property damage wreck and was told the vehicle involved was now at the gas pumps.
He saw a man, later identified as Haywood, walking away from the vehicle and made contact with him inside the store. Both Haywood and the clerk confirmed Haywood was driving the
vehicle which hit a concrete barrier pole in front of the store.
After a computer check revealed the warrant for his arrest, Haywood was taken into custody and during a pat-down search of his person Hampton reportedly found two large sums of money in his pockets and another large sum of money in his wallet, a total of $1,720.
In searching his vehicle prior to being towed, deputies reportedly found a bag containing a jar and baggie of marijuana, a total of 77.7 grams or 2.7 ounces, digital scales and a pill bottle with 160 Xanax pills, a schedule IV narcotic.
The vehicle, money and drugs were seized by agents with the 18th Judicial District East Drug Task Force who took over the investigation.
