Arvest Foundation donates to OCC

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Garland County children in crisis and in need of emergency and long-term care will be more thoroughly served thanks to a $10,000 donation from the Arvest Foundation to Ouachita Children’s Center Inc., according to an Arvest Foundation news release.

The Ouachita Children’s Center is one branch of Ouachita Children, Youth and Family Services. OCC serves youths between the ages of 6 and 17 who are escaping abusive situations, homelessness or trouble in their communities. The organization offers a variety of services for these children, including a 24hour short-term shelter in Hot Springs, support groups, access to counseling and individualized case management.

The funds from the Arvest Foundation will help the OCC fund programming and facility upgrades for the new Qualified Residential Treatment Program, a long-term residential shelter for youths in need of extended care.

“This donation will directly improve our ability to provide the kids we see on a daily basis with the love, care and attention they deserve,” Sheryl Staggs, executive director of OCC, said. “Thank you to the Arvest Foundation for continuing to be a community advocate and supporting local organizations like ours.”

“We are pleased to present this Arvest Foundation donation to the Ouachita Children’s Center,” Franklin Bass, market president for Arvest Bank in Hot Springs, said. “This organization provides constant emotional support to kids in crisis, so we are happy to make their jobs just a little easier by providing some financial support.”

The Arvest Foundation seeks to provide funding to grantees who are actively working to create positive change for others. Major areas of focus include K-12 education, economic development and enhancing the quality of life throughout the Arvest footprint.
