Mountain Pine man arrested for alleged stabbing attack
A Mountain Pine man was arrested Friday morning after he allegedly stabbed a family friend repeatedly Thursday evening in what the victim described as an unprovoked attack possibly triggered by “a mental break.”
Brandon Lee Trefry-Nicks, 24, who lists a Mountain Pine Road address, was taken into custody shortly after 9 a.m. in the 800 block of Lakeland Point and charged with first-degree battery, punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
Trefry-Nicks, who lists no prior criminal history, was being held on a $50,000 bond and was set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Hot Springs police responded to a residence in the 300 block of Lakeland Drive regarding a stabbing.
Officers made contact with the male victim, age not listed, inside his residence and noted he had multiple stab wounds to his face, neck and hands.
The victim stated a known suspect, identified as Trefry-Nicks, described as a family friend, was staying at his residence for the evening. He said he was sitting at his computer when Trefry-Nicks came up behind him, unprovoked, and put his hand over his mouth and pulled his head back, exposing his neck.
At that point, he said Trefry-Nicks began stabbing him repeatedly with a knife. Once he realized what was happening, the victim said he began to fight back. During the fight, Trefry-Nicks reportedly said, “Isn’t this a nice way to go out?”
Then Trefry- Nicks left the residence and began walking away on foot still carrying the knife. Officers searched but were unable to locate him in the area at that time. The affidavit notes Trefry-Nicks “was believed to be suffering from a mental break.”
The area of Lakeland Point where Trefry-Nicks was located on Friday is about eight-tenths of a mile from the location on Lakeland Drive where the attack reportedly occurred.
