Wyrick, Thornton lead LH over Nashville

PEARCY — Junior Hayleigh Wyrick scored 23 points while senior Aspen Thornton added

17 to give the Lady Wolves a 59

50 win over the Lady Scrappers Monday night at Wolf Arena.

Lake Hamilton (8-3) jumped out to a 14-10 lead in the first quarter while both squads added 15 points apiece in the second for a 29-25 spread at the break. The Lady Wolves outscored Nashville 30-25 in the second half to secure the win.

Wyrick added six rebounds, three assists and three steals in the bout while Thornton added two assists and a pair of steals. Junior Ginny Higginboth­am finished with 9 points and three assists in the win.

The Lady Wolves remained at home Tuesday where they picked up a 66-41 win over Centerpoin­t.

Lake Hamilton wasted no time getting on the scoreboard to take a 26-7 lead after one before outscoring the Lady Knights 17-12 in the second and

18-14 in the third to go on to victory.

Both Wyrick and Thornton tallied 19 points with Thornton adding six steals, five assists and four rebounds and Wyrick racking up five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Junior Annabelle Coppedge added 7 points while Higginboth­am tacked on 6 points and five rebounds.

Lake Hamilton (VB) 82, Kirby 54

PEARCY — With an onpoint overall shooting performanc­e, the Wolves (6-3) routed Kirby Wednesday at Wolf Arena.

“We made 12 3-point shots in the first half alone,” said head coach Scotty Pennington. “I had never seen anything like it before as a coach.”

Sophomore K.J. McDaniel led the Wolves with 25 points while junior Hayden McDougal added 17 points, and junior Gavin Robbins put up 14. Sophomore Zac Pennington tacked on

11 points with 12 assists while senior Elijah Smith finished with

10 points.

Senior Christian Miller led the Trojans with 19 points followed by senior Brody Tucker with 11.

Lakeside (VG) 70, Joe T. Robinson 61

With help from a solid second half performanc­e and great team play, the Lady Rams (6-3) powered past the Lady Senators on Wednesday at Lakeside Athletic Complex.

After the Lady Rams fell behind 20-17 in the first quarter of action, the competitio­n heated

up as the Lady Senators, leading by 2 after the break, found themselves trailing 48-44 entering the fourth where the Lady Rams continued their drive for the win.

“Our level of competitiv­eness in the second half was good to see,” said Lakeside head coach Chris Brock. “I thought we really responded to the challenge and played really well in the second half. Adachi (Igbokidi) played hard and aggressive­ly the entire game.”

The senior led the Lady Rams with 21 points and nine rebounds. Junior Ronni Formby added 20 points and 10 rebounds, junior Sarah Porter had 18 points and six rebounds, junior Mady Davenport had 6 points with three rebounds and senior Erika Bittinger tallied 5 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Northern Colorado commit Alex Rouse racked up 37 points for the Lady Senators in the match. The Lady Rams play again today at 10 a.m. against Benton at Lakeside Athletic Complex.

OBU women’s basketball postpones five matches

RUSSELLVIL­LE — With a number of players quarantine­d due to positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing, Ouachita Baptist University’s women’s basketball team will not start their season on Thursday.

Scheduled to open on the road at Harding Thursday, the Tigers will be postponing five of their matches including a Jan. 9 game at Southern Arkansas, Jan. 11 home game against Henderson State, Jan. 14 game at Arkansas-Monticello and Jan. 16 home game against Arkansas Tech.

The teams anticipate­s resuming the season on Jan. 21 with a home game against SAU. Dates for the reschedule­d dates will be released at a later date.
