NSDOAF recognizes member for her research
Arkansas members of the National Society Descendants of American Farmers recently gathered for fellowship and to present one of their newer members, Sheila Beatty-Krout, with 21 approved supplemental ancestor certificates.
“A supplemental ancestor is a proven lineal ancestor in addition to the original ancestor used to join that society. Beatty-Krout stated she has now validated her maternal farmer ancestors back to the Revolutionary War. Her ancestors include a widowed woman who raised her family while farming,” a news release said.
Only two years old, NSDOAF already has over 1,000 members from all over the United States, the release said. Founded in 2019, the NSDOAF is a nonprofit, nonpolitical organization for descendants of American farmers who were living within the present boundaries of the contiguous continental states of the United States of America between July 4, 1776, and July 4, 1914.
“The mission of the society is to honor American Farmer Ancestors who were such an important part of the success of our country; award higher education scholarships to students who will follow in our ancestors’ footsteps and experience camaraderie among our members who have a shared love for American Farmers past and present,” the release said.
In addition to documentation establishing the ancestor as a farmer, all relationships, dates and places must be validated.
NSDOAF has streamlined the application and supplement processing. Approved applications from other societies may be used. For those with the capability, proofs, applications can all be sent via email. Payment may be made via PayPal.
The society does not have chapters or chapter presidents but does have state ambassadors to assist in the application process and in honoring farmers in their area. The Arkansas Ambassador is Linda Vandenberg White.
In addition to honoring farmer ancestors, agricultural careers are encouraged by awarding scholarships in that field, the release said All the money received for supplements and net proceeds for original applications go to scholarships, which totals over $36,000 to date.
