City participates in Water Challenge
City officials are asking Hot Springs residents to pledge to save water at http://www.mywaterpledge.com through April 30 as part of the 10th Annual Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation.
The city earned a second-place finish in 2015 and “hopes to do even better and win the 10th annual event in the category for cities between
30,000 and 99,999,” the city said in a news release.
Completing the online conservation pledge adds to Hot Springs’ total count and can nominate a local charity for a chance to win a Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Each participant will also be entered to win from thousands of eco-friendly prizes, including $3,000 toward their home utility bills, home irrigation makeovers and environmentally friendly cleaning products. Only cities with the most residents making pledges will qualify for the more than
$50,000 in prize drawings, the release said.
“We all experienced our ability to function with less water during this winter’s snowstorm with busted water pipes impacting the city’s ability to produce an equal amount of drinkable water,” Mayor Pat McCabe said in the release.
“While certainly not to be expected to do so at the extreme, we recognize that we can conserve on a regular basis,” he said.
The annual event, presented by the Wyland Foundation and Toyota, encourages residents across America to make small changes in their lives to better manage water resources and improve the health of oceans, lakes, rivers, streams and wetlands, the release said.
