COVID-19 UPDATE

As a service to our readers, The Sentinel-Record publishes updates released by the city of Hot Springs and the state of Arkansas.

The following stats were posted Monday on the Arkansas Department of Health website:

• 261,472 cumulative confirmed cases, up 54 from Sunday.

• 127.57 rolling seven-day average of new confirmed cases, down 0.43 from Sunday.

• 2,930,649 PCR test reports, up 1,560 from Sunday.

• 8.9% cumulative PCR infection rate, no change from Sunday.

• 72,039 cumulative probable cases, up five from Sunday.

• 15.6% cumulative antigen infection rate, no change from Sunday.

• 1,789 active confirmed and probable cases, down 121 from Sunday.

• 325,969 recoveries of confirmed and probable cases, up 175 from Sunday.

• 2,262,130 vaccine doses received, no change from Sunday.

• 1,538,762 doses given, up 6,487 from Sunday.

• 164 hospitalizations, up three from Sunday.

• 22 cases on a ventilator, up one from Sunday.

• 55 ICU patients, up one from Sunday.

• 4,525 confirmed deaths, up four from Sunday.

• 207 confirmed deaths, up one from Sunday.

49 probable deaths, no change from Sunday. The four new infections reported Monday in Garland County were the third-most in the state, trailing only Pulaski and Benton counties.

New polymerase chain reaction-confirmed cases reported in the county have been in the single digits 24 out of the last 25 days. New PCR-confirmed cases reported in the county Saturday, Sunday and Monday totaled five. The increase coincided with 161 PCR test reports added to the county’s testing total.

The state’s PCR-confirmed infection curve rose 37% from April 10 to Saturday but decreased Sunday and Monday.

“Today we saw fewer new cases with more testing than this time last week,” Gov. Asa Hutchinson said Monday in a news release. “The increase in vaccine doses was larger this week than last Monday. Our combined efforts are keeping the numbers low, but we will lose momentum if we do not increase our vaccination numbers.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there were 5,800 breakthrough infections, or positive COVID-19 test results received at least two weeks after the infected person received their final vaccine dose, as of last week.

More than 70 million Americans have been fully vaccinated. The CDC said breakthrough cases represent 0.008% of the fully vaccinated population.
