Rising Rams draft May 15

- BRANDON SMITH

Lakeside will host its fourth annual Rising Rams developmental volleyball camp this fall with the draft set to take place May 15 in the Lakeside Junior High gymnasium.

The program was started by Lakeside head volleyball coach Rhonda Thigpen as a way to help young athletes with their volleyball skills. The camp, which is for incoming third through sixth-grade students, is limited to those who attend Lakeside Public Schools. Practices will begin in August.

While the season is normally held from August through early October, this year’s camp was delayed to the spring, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With strict protocols in place, the 100 camp participants were spaced out, with 12 teams and over 22 volunteer coaches helping out.

“This is the growing exciting future of volleyball and RAMS MTXE and Junior Rams Volleyball at Lakeside,” Thigpen said in a news release. “These camps are always a fun time to learn volleyball and participate with your friends.”
