A one-day household hazardous waste collection event is scheduled for Saturday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Garland County Fairground­s, 4831 Malvern Ave.

Household hazardous wastes are unused or leftover household products containing chemicals that are toxic, flammable, corrosive or reactive. These products, such as paints, cleaners, oils and pesticides can contain hazardous waste and should not be disposed of in household trash, poured down sinks, toilets, storm drains or just dumped on the ground. Left stored improperly at home, they can be a hazard to children and cause fumes or fires.

Last week the Earth Angels of Hot Springs recycled:

247 pounds — Aluminum cans.

85,260 pounds — Commercial corrugated cardboard.

1,634 pounds — Newspaper.

807 pounds — Plastic grades No. 1 and No. 2.

1,003 pounds — Residentia­l corrugated cardboard.

58,620 pounds — Yard waste and C.A.P.S.

Last week, a total 73.78 of tons of recyclable materials were kept out of the landfill.

Collection schedule

Today — Hobson/Plain. Monday — Quail Creek/ Lotus Loop.

Tuesday — James/Millcreek.

Wednesday — Park Avenue/Magnolia/Circle Drive.

Thursday — Oaklawn Park/ Pine Meadows.

Friday — Whittingto­n/Quapaw-Prospect.
