New England Women National President Schleinzer receives Arkansas Secretary of State Traveler Certificate
The Diamond Colony, National Society New England Women recently presented NSNEW President General Jane D. Schleinzer with the Arkansas Secretary of State Traveler Certificate.
“This certificate expresses the state’s special recognition to outof-state visitors who have contributed to the progress, enjoyment or well-being of the State of Arkansas or to her people. When one receives this beautiful certificate, they become an ambassador for Arkansas. Each certificate has the official Seal of the State of Arkansas in gold, the signature of the Secretary of State and the signature of the Governor. In 1941, the Arkansas General Assembly created the Arkansas Traveler Certificate to honor out-of-state visitors, the first presentation going to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt,” a news release said.
Schleinzer, an Illinois resident, announced her national projects will continue to be support of Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech; New England Kurn Hattin Home; Emma Hardy Slade Student Loan Fund; Maud Brown Pendleton Endowment Scholarship/Student Loan Fund; the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines,’ Coast Guard and Airmen’s Club; the USO; and veterans hospitals.
“The National Society of New England Women is a proud Commemorative Partner of the Vietnam War Commemoration,” the release said.
Her administration will also financially support the restoration of the National Pilgrim Memorial Meetinghouse. The Meetinghouse is located at the same place the Mayflower Pilgrims built their Fort (Meetinghouse). There have been five buildings located at this location. Building on the National Pilgrim Memorial Meetinghouse began in 1897 and was finished in 1899. It stands at the top of Leyden Street in Plymouth, Mass. This church was the mother church of several planted after the Pilgrims arrived, the release said.
Membership is open to any woman older than 18, with proof of lineal descent from one or more ancestors born in New England prior to the adoption of the Constitution of the United States in 1789 or before 1700 in Nassau or Suffolk County, Long Island.
