New resident cases reported at nursing home

- DAVID SHOWERS

Lake Hamilton Health and Rehab is one of six long-term care facilities with new resident cases in the double digits, according to the nursing home report the Arkansas Department of Health updated Monday.

Thirteen new resident cases were reported at the Pittman Road location during the 14 days that preceded Monday’s update. All 13 are active, with Friday being the date of the most recent positive. Somerset Senior Living at Canyon Springs and Village Springs Health and Rehabilitation were the other Garland County facilities listed in Monday’s update.

Seven new resident cases were reported at Somerset Senior Living, up from the five reported at the Park Avenue location in the Sept. 28 update. The most recent positive was Sept. 28. Seven new resident cases were reported at Village Springs, down from the 17 the previous update reported at the Highway 7 north facility. The most recent positive was Sept. 24.

According to the update, seven Lake Hamilton Health and Rehab residents have died from COVID-19 during the pandemic. Five resident deaths have been reported at Somerset Senior Living at Canyon Springs and 12 at Village Springs.

Nursing home deaths have accounted for almost 30% of the more than 7,700 COVID-19 deaths the state has reported since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The county’s infection curve has fallen 84% in the last seven weeks, but representatives from CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs and National Park Medical Center told the Hot Springs/Garland County COVID-19 Task Force Monday their COVID admissions were higher relative to last week.

The two hospitals said they had a combined 35 COVID-19 patients, according to a city of Hot Springs news release, an increase of four from last week.
