Hit the right note this Christmas

-

The Christmas song “The Christmas Song,” perhaps better known as “Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire,” is a beloved tune cowritten in 1945 by Mel Tormé and Robert Wells. The song was reportedly penned on a hot July day and the writers had to think cool thoughts to evoke a feeling of the holiday season. This Christmas classic became one of the defining performances of Nat King Cole’s career, as he is one of the most popular artists to perform the song and recorded it on at least three separate occasions.

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,

Jack Frost nipping at your nose.

Yuletide carols being sung by a choir, and folks dressed up like Eskimos. Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe help to make the season bright.

Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow will find it hard to sleep tonight.

They know that Santa’s on his way.

He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh. And every mother’s child is gonna spy to see if reindeer really know how to fly.

And so I’m offering this simple phrase to kids from one to ninety-two. Although it’s been said many times many ways: Merry Christmas to you!

Jingle Bell Rock Many Christmas songs are traditional religious hymns or slow-paced popular standards. “Jingle Bell Rock” is anything but, with a rock-n-roll hook and upbeat tempo. This popular rockabilly Christmas song was first released in 1957 by Bobby Helms and it fit in perfectly with other songs of the era. It remains a fan favorite today.

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock Jingle bell swing and jingle bells ring Snowin’ and blowin’ up bushels of fun Now the jingle hop has begun. (Chorus) Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time Dancin’ and prancin’ in Jingle Bell Square In the frosty air.

What a bright time, it’s the right time To rock the night away Jingle bell time is a swell time To go glidin’ in a one-horse sleigh. Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet Jingle around the clock

Mix and a-mingle in the jinglin’ feet That’s the jingle bell rock. (Chorus) Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet Jingle around the clock Mix and a-mingle in the jinglin’ feet That’s the jingle bell That’s the jingle bell That’s the jingle bell rock Written by Joseph Carleton Beal and James Ross Boothe Lyrics courtesy of Lyrics.com

Christmas Time Is Here “Christmas Time Is Here” is a song written for the 1965 television special “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” which was one of the first animated specials produced for network television in the United States. Along with singing carols and baking cookies, watching classic Christmas specials is part of many families’ holiday traditions. Two versions of the song appeared on the album that was released in conjunction with the TV special: an instrumental version by the Vince Guaraldi Trio as well as a vocal version sung by choristers from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in San Rafael, Calif.

Christmas time is here Happiness and cheer Fun for all that children call Their favorite time of the year. Snowflakes in the air Carols everywhere Olden times and ancient rhymes Of love and dreams to share. Sleigh bells in the air Beauty everywhere Yuletide by the fireside And joyful memories there. Christmas time is here We’ll be drawing near Oh, that we could always see Such spirit through the year Oh, that we could always see Such spirit through the year.
