Junior Auxiliary of Hot Springs to hold annual fundraising gala

-

The Junior Auxiliary of Hot Springs will hold its seventh annual fundraiser gaming gala, Prohibition, Saturday night, and hopes to “make up for lost time by stepping back in time — 1922 re-imagined in 2022,” the group said in a news release.

The event, presented by Tito’s Handmade Vodka and media sponsor AY Magazine, will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Hamp Williams Building, 510 Ouachita Ave., featuring music by Brooke Martin and Sylvia Stems, and organized by Signature Events.

“Prohibition is our only fundraiser for the year,” Holly Heer, JA member and fundraising chair, said. “We are so excited to hold this fun and unique event. Not only does it support amazing programs that benefit the children of Garland County, but you’ll have a good time while doing it.”

Heer said there will be health precautions taken in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, including that attendees must show proof of vaccination or wear a mask. The event is also limited to those 21 and older.

They were unable to hold the event last year, but “we usually raise $50,000,” Heer told The Sentinel-Record on Monday. “While we recognize numbers will be lower than they have in the past, we still expect to have a successful and well-attended event.”

Bleu Monkey will be the food sponsor and Southern Glazer’s will be donating wine and spirits. In addition to a silent and live auction, there will also be gaming tables. Tickets are available for $75 at https://www.hotspringsprohibition.com.

“Junior Auxiliary of Hot Springs represents

a serious endeavor by women to render charitable services in their community, with an emphasis on children,” Heer said in the release, noting they are not “just ladies who lunch.”

The group’s members “strive to be active and constructive participants in the communities in which they live and to assume responsible leadership in meeting community needs. It provides the members with the opportunity to serve and to be a vital part of the community through various projects,” she said.

In addition to volunteering and supporting dozens of projects affiliated with other Garland County nonprofits, their membership plans and executes other projects and programs such as a Life Skills course for children about to age out of foster care, scholarships for Garland County graduates, “Heart for Art,” a program with the goal to educate students in Garland County about heart disease and its prevention through educational art curriculum and creative art activities.

They also sponsor “JA Fun Day,” a field day designed for all elementary special needs students in Garland County and a program that identifies the families within The CALL who are in the most need and the JA members offer assistance for any needs the families may have.
