- STEVEN MROSS

A local woman on parole was arrested Monday morning on felony and misdemeanor warrants for allegedly breaking into several storage units last month.

Blitzie Dianna Cox, 36, of 919 Rector St., was taken into custody at her residence shortly before 11 a.m. and charged with felony counts of breaking or entering and first-degree criminal mischief, each punishable by up to six years in prison, and a misdemeanor count of theft of property under $1,000, punishable by up to one year in jail.

Cox was later released on a $6,000 bond and is set to appear on May 16 in Garland County District Court. According to court records, Cox was previously convicted in 2015 in Hempstead County of residential burglary, theft of property over $1,000 and eight counts of theft of a firearm and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, but later paroled.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on April 7, the owner of S&S Storage, 3025 Airport Road, reported a break-in at the facility to Garland County sheriff’s investigators that had allegedly occurred on April 1.

The owner stated he had discovered six units that had been broken into and damaged with the hasp locks cut off of each.

He provided investigators with security video from the facility, which showed that around 3 p.m. on April 1 a silver 2012 Hyundai pulled up to the units and a woman, later identified through booking and driver’s license photos as Cox, got out with a pair of bolt cutters.

She could be seen cutting the locks of each of the six units and removing various items from the units before leaving the property. The affidavit notes Cox was issued a traffic citation while driving the same vehicle on Jan. 14.

The owner noted the total damage to the six units was estimated at $1,500. After further investigation, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Cox on April 11.
