Annual favorite returns for closing weekend of Arts & The Park

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Studio Tours, where artists open their workspaces to the public, will return for the closing weekend of Arts & The Park on Saturday and Sunday, according to the Hot Springs Area Cultural Alliance.

The monthly Gallery Walk on Friday, from 5-9 p.m., and a concert by the international IBLA competition winners at 7 p.m. on Saturday, will help to close out the 10-day arts and culture festival.

“Studio Tours opens the doors to what are typically very private spaces — artists’ studios,” HSACA said in a news release. Presented by Riser Auto, Studio Tours is open at 16 separate locations.

“HSACA recommends beginning at Riser Auto on Saturday morning to pick up a map guide and to visit the Vapor Valley Studio of John Faginkrantz. From there, participants can follow the printed directions to the studios of their choosing, enjoying a mini road trip around the Hot Springs area” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, the release said.

This year, Studio Tours includes returning favorites, such as Riley Art Glass demonstrating their glass-blowing techniques, and newer artists like Studio 404, home to the work of Suzie Burch who specializes in mosaic and fabric. Some are galleries that also house studio spaces, like Justus Fine Art Gallery and the workspace of Dolores Justus.

The monthly Gallery Walk will be held from 5-9 p.m. Friday, offering

visitors the opportunity to enjoy “beautifully unique local art,” as well as mingle with artists, art-lovers, and gallery owners.

The one-night-only performance from IBLA international musicians will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, 841 Central Ave.

“The IBLA Foundation in New York City organizes an annual music competition for pianists, singers, instrumentalists and composers which takes place in Ragusa Ibla, Italy. Winners have been presented in such venues as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Tokyo Opera City Hall in Japan, the Tchaikovsky Bolshoi Hall in Moscow as well as other iconic venues around the world. This year, this prestigious group of musicians will be performing in Hot Springs,” the release said.
