- STEVEN MROSS

A Kentucky man was arrested Tuesday allegedly driving a stolen car after Garland County sheriff’s investigators traveling behind the car reportedly smelled marijuana coming from it.

Daniel Dogan Bailey, 43, who lists a Covington, Kentucky, address, was taken into custody shortly after 1 p.m. in the 800 block of Central Avenue and charged with a felony count of theft by receiving over $5,000, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Bailey was being held on a $6,000 bond and was set to appear Wednesday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, sheriff’s Investigators Andrew Goodman and Elwood McConnell were traveling in the 900 block of Central when Goodman reportedly smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle in front of them, a white passenger car with a Kentucky license plate.

They ran the plate and determined it was a 2016 Hyundai passenger car that had been reported stolen by the Florence, Kentucky, Police Department.

They followed the car until it parked at Spencer’s Corner, 801 Central, and ordered the driver, later identified as Bailey, out of the vehicle and took him into custody. A female passenger, 32, was also ordered out and detained at the scene.

The investigators ran the vehicle identification number through dispatch and confirmed it was the stolen Hyundai out of Kentucky. They contacted the Florence police who stated the vehicle was listed as being valued at $18,000.

The affidavit did not indicate if any marijuana was located in the vehicle.
