“Sneakerell­a” (2022)

Get a chance to be the belle (or beau) of the ball with “Sneakerell­a,” the new family musical comedy adaptation of the classic Cinderella fairytale, available to stream Friday, May 13, on Disney+. Working as a stock boy at a sneaker store in Queens that used to belong to his late mother, aspiring sneaker designer El (Chosen Jacobs, “It,” 2017) is forced to hide his artistic dream from his stepfather and mean-spirited stepbrothe­rs. But when El falls for Kira King (Lexi Underwood, “Little Fires Everywhere,” 2020), the daughter of basketball legend and shoe tycoon Darius King (John Salley, “Bad Boys,” 1995), El gains the courage to pursue his dreams with the help of his best friend, Sami (Devyn Nekoda, “Ginny & Georgia”) and just a little bit of magic. Directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum (“Relationsh­ip Status”), this new family-friendly film is written by David Light (“Z-O-M-B-I-E-S,” 2018), Joseph Raso (“Seed”), George Gore II (“My Wife and Kids”), Tamara Chestna (“After,” 2019) and Mindy Stern (“The Baxters”). Kolton Stewart (“Astrid and Lilly Save the World”), Bryan Terrell Clark (“Snowpierce­r”), Hayward Leach (“Love Life”) and Juan Chioran (“Around the World in 80 Days, 2021) also star in the film.
