ASHDOWN — Betty Lou Sowell Veazey of Ashdown, Ark., passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the age of 83.

Betty was born in Hot Springs, Ark., on March 30, 1939, to Iris Marney Sowell and William Darch Sowell. She married her high school sweetheart, Bill Franklin Veazey, on May 5, 1956. Together they had three children, Deborah, Darrell and Susan. Her grandchild­ren called her “Memaw.” Betty was a devoted wife, mother and grandmothe­r. She was a longtime member of Hicks First Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, bird watching, gardening and red lipstick. Betty leaves behind a huge hole in our hearts and her beloved dog, Biggs.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Virgil Evelyn Thompson; and brother, Billy Mack Sowell.

Betty is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bill; daughter, Debbie Smith of Lockesburg, Ark.; son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Phyllis Veazey of Ashdown; daughter and sonin-law, Susan and Stacy Brown of Ashdown; one sister, Sandra Boston of Ashdown; six grandchild­ren, Mindy Hollingshe­ad (Jon) of The Colony Texas, Brandy Clay (Nathaniel) of Lockesburg, Ark., Sarah Adams (Justin) of Ashdown, David Veazey (Tori) of Ashdown, Emilie Mcfadden (BJ) of Ashdown and Megan Withem (Sean) of Texarkana, Ark.; and 10 great-grandchild­ren, Allen Hollingshe­ad; Scott, Ethan and Abbie Clay; Channing Adams; Tripp, Grayson and Tate Mcfadden; and Liam and Lainey Withem.

Honoring her wishes, no services are planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hicks First Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
