A local parolee who is reportedly homeless was arrested on felony drug charges late Wednesday after he was allegedly caught trespassing at an area laundromat.

Cameron Louis Hawkins, 28, who lists “city streets” as his address, was taken into custody shortly after 11:30 p.m. at the Fun Wash, 901 Malvern Ave., and charged with possession of a controlled substance, meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia, each punishable by up to six years in prison.

Hawkins, who also had a failure to appear warrant stemming from an Aug. 2 arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia, was being held on a $6,000 bond and was set to appear Friday in Garland County District Court. According to court records, he was convicted on Dec. 10, 2018, of commercial burglary, breaking or entering and theft of property and sentenced to five years’ supervised probation which was later revoked and he was sentenced to two years in prison, but later paroled.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly before 11:30 a.m., Hot Springs police Officer Christopher Gibson responded to the Fun Wash regarding an alleged trespasser on the property and made contact with Hawkins at the scene.

A computer check showed he had a warrant so he was taken into custody. In searching him, officers allegedly found a plastic baggie wrapped in aluminum foil in his shirt pocket that contained 0.6 grams of what later tested positive for meth. They also reportedly found two syringes in his pants pocket “commonly used to inject narcotics.”

When asked about the items after being read his rights, Hawkins reportedly admitted to being “a user.”
