Cobras finish regular season on high note

FOUNTAIN LAKE — The Fountain Lake boys golf team finished the season with 11 straight victories.

The Cobras (124) took down Morrilton (136) and Mena (146) Thursday. Dillon Dettmering and Kolt Carden both finished with a score of 41. Coil Burks finished with a 42.

Fountain Lake’s Jaylen Cameron finished as the medalist with a round of 49 in the girls match.

COBRAS FACE OFF WITH NASHVILLE

FOUNTAIN LAKE — The Fountain Lake boys tennis team took down Nashville after sweeping singles competitio­n against the Scrappers Thursday.

Paul Combs won his match 8-4 before John Carter won his contest by the same scoreline. George Drakes completed the sweep for Fountain Lake with an 8-0 win.

Nashville took both boys doubles matches. Andrew Bledsoe and Garrett White lost 4-8, and Bo Baker and Jackson Akard lost 3-8.

The Lady Cobras split with Nashville. Laine Mungle (8-0), Paige Davis (8-1) and Mary Drakes (8-4) all picked up singles wins for Fountain Lake. However, Aedan Kaumeyer fell 3-8.

Davis and Drakes lost in doubles 8-9, and Skylar Smedley and Bailey Sullivan lost 1-8.

LAKESIDE BOYS SWEEP BENTON

The Lakeside boys tennis team swept Benton Thursday.

Ben Hollis won his singles match 6-2, 6-0. Walker Wood won 6-0, 6-0, and Bartley Bledsoe took an 8-0 victory.

William Ivy and Griffin Gulley took a 6-1, 6-2 win in doubles. Greyson Cornelison and Barrett Tipton completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 doubles win.

In girls play, Julia Malone won her singles match 6-0, 6-1 for the Lady Rams. Brenna Townley also won her singles match 6-1, 6-4.

Elizabeth Cowen and Sabrina Long took a 6-1, 6-2 win in doubles for Lakeside. Mia Francioni and Campbell Wood just edged Benton 6-4, 5-7 (105). Ellianna Uldrich and Shelby Henley lost 6-8.

MTXE RAMS DOWN TEXARKANA

The Lakeside MTXE volleyball team downed Texarkana 3-0 behind a 10-kill performanc­e from Madi Belle Landry.

Landry also tallied 12 digs and six aces. Audrey Divers controlled defensive play with 20 digs, while Paige Woods had 14 assists and four digs.

Lauren Latham added 11 assists, 10 kills and five digs. Aubrey Judd finished with eight kills, five blocks and two aces, and Olivia Godwin ended with seven digs.

The MTXE junior varsity Rams swept Texarkana 2-0. Charlotte Colgrove had nine assists and three kills, and Alexis Kessler added 13 digs.

JUNIOR RAMS SWEEP TEXARKANA

The Lakeside ninth grade volleyball team beat Texarkana 2-0 in a comfortabl­e match for the junior Rams.

Lakeside won the first set 25-6 before closing the contest 25-11. Madeline Slaton led the Rams with four kills, two digs and seven aces.

Sophie Botter tallied three kills, two digs and one ace. Baryett Janes totaled five aces, one kill and four digs. Laynee Throgmarti­n notched eight assists, and Kaydence Anderson tallied 11 digs and an assist. The team improved to 6-2 on the season with the win.

The 8A Lakeside team won 25-11, 2516. Elli Krauss led the team with nine aces, and Ellis Pierce had six aces. The 8A team’s record jumped to 10-2 with the victory.

The 8B Rams also won 2-0. Eva Villasenso­r had six aces, and Lexi Mace accounted for five aces. The 8B Rams have a record of 4-3.

LAKE HAMILTON SWEEPS COMPETITIO­N

GLENWOOD — The Lake Hamilton boys and girls golf teams took wins over Hot Springs, Sheridan and Texarkana.

Lake Hamilton’s Brode Horton finished as the medalist with a score of 38. He was followed by teammates Zac Pennington (40), Ben Varner (42), Jack Higginboth­am (44) and Colton Quebedeaux (48).

The Wolves finished with a team score of 164, followed by Sheridan (179) and Texarkana (199).

Hot Springs did not finish with a team score, and Cade Miller (41) and Warren Hedrick (46) were the only two golfers for the Trojans.

Lake Hamilton’s Jordyn Garner finished as the medalist on the girls side with a round of 50. Reagan Carrouth (60) and Kenley Kincannon (67) rounded out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

The Lake Hamilton girls team won with a team score of 177, and Sheridan finished second with a score of 193. Texarkana and Hot Springs did not register team scores. Melanie Holmes was the only Lady Trojan on the course and finished with a score of 57.

GAC ANNOUNCES WOMEN’S SOCCER AWARDS

RUSSELLVIL­LE — Harding’s Kim Barcenas was named defender of the week after a 1-0 win over Texas Woman’s.

She played the full 90 minutes as Harding allowed six shots on goal.

Northweste­rn Oklahoma State’s Carlie Massingale was named co-offensive player of the week. The senior scored a hat trick in a 28-minute span in a 4-0 victory against New Mexico

Highlands.

Southern Nazarene’s Josie Van Pelt picked up co-offensive player of the week honors after scoring a first-half hat trick against Central Christian.

NWOSU’s Angel Chase won goalkeeper of the week. She made five saves and kept a clean sheet against New Mexico Highlands.

GAC LISTS MEN’S SOCCER AWARDS

RUSSELLVIL­LE — Southern Nazarene’s Bruno Ferreira won offensive player of the week, and Northeaste­rn State’s Eric Romero won defender of the week.

Fort Hays State’s Kieran Brown repeated as goalkeeper of the week after recording 11 saves and posting a .786 save percentage against No. 6 Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Internatio­nal.

Ferreira scored his first goal of the season against Texas A&M-Internatio­nal and notched an assist. His five assists lead the GAC.

Romero played 90 minutes for the fourth-straight time and recorded a shutout.

GAC AWARDS XC RUNNERS OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVIL­LE — Southeaste­rn Oklahoma State’s Sarah Coblentz won women’s runner of the week, and NWOSU’s Zach Cox was named men’s runner of the week.

Coblentz paced the Savage Storm when she finished 13th at the Aggie Duels. Her time of 19:56.0 was the fastest time of the 25 GAC runners competing at the meet. She trimmed more than 90 seconds off her time at the previous meet.

Cox led NWOSU to a second-place finish at the Aggie Duels. He finished second individual­ly with a time of 25:49.0. His time represente­d a personal best and ranked fourth fastest in program history.
