Robert E. Shick
MOUNT IDA — Robert E. (Bob) Shick was born in Hardin, Ohio, on June 24, 1930, to Ira and Mabel (Mcginnis) Shick. He served as a tail gunner in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, then spent many years in the retail business.
Bob moved to Mount Ida, where he met the love of his life, Nola (Sissy). They were married on Jan. 5, 1979, then spent many years running the Mount Ida Café, where they served delicious food and stimulating conversation. They treated everyone who came in as a friend. After selling the café and semi-retiring, Bob worked at Camp Ozark. He worked on the grounds, in the kitchen and wherever he was needed. And that was Bob — he did whatever anyone needed done. He was a true servant.
Bob and Sis were members of Faith Tabernacle, where he served faithfully until health issues limited his activity.
Of all Bob’s many accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. When he married Sissy, she had three sons that he immediately claimed as his own. And they loved him dearly, as well. He was a devoted husband and made it his No. 1 priority to take care of Sissy.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Mabel Shick; sister, Eva Deal (John); brother, Charles Shick (Dorothy); sister, Wanda Moser (Robert); and sister, Helen Laubis (Richard).
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Nola (Sis) Shick of Mount Ida; sister, Betty Moorehead (Jack) of Ohio; three sons: Larry Bryant of Camden, S.C., Rodney Bryant of Hot Spring, and Tommy Bryant (Lisa) of Beebe; four grandchildren: Courtney Taylor, Jessica (Matt) Steele, Leslie (Zack) Lewis, Lawson (Carissa) Bryant; and seven great-grandchildren: Savannah Lehman, Tanner Lehman, Hadley Taylor, Harper Steele, Emma Lewis, Adi Lewis and Tucker Lewis. Bob also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that he spoke of often and fondly. Louann and Mike were especially dear to him.
For the last year, Bob has been a resident of Mount Ida Nursing Home. We want to thank Tommy and his staff for providing excellent care of him.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at the Standridge Cemetery, with a graveside service at 11 a.m., with Brother Don Vaughn officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Thornton Funeral Service in Mount Ida.
