Fountain Lake wins on buzzer beater

POTTSVILLE — Dillon Dettmering’s 3-point basket at the buzzer propelled Fountain Lake to a 50-49 win over Pottsville.

The Cobras actually controlled a majority of the contest and led 12-5 after the first quarter. Fountain Lake then took a commanding 30-14 lead into halftime.

It looked like the Cobras would close out the contest comfortabl­y, leading 41-30 after the third quarter. However, Pottsville battled back to set up the exciting finishing.

Evan East led the Cobras with 12 points, and Dedric Blocker scored 11 for Fountain Lake. Dettmering finished with nine points.

Before the Cobras took down Pottsville, they beat Waldron 57-50.

Waldron jumped out to an early 9-7 lead, and the contest was tied 19-19 at halftime. Fountain Lake then took control of the game and led 40-33 after the third quarter.

Dettmering led the way with 17 points, and East added 13. Wyatt Clem finished with 11 points, and Colby Lambert scored 10 for Fountain Lake.

JUNIOR RAMS WIN RIVALRY CONTEST

The Lakeside junior high boys basketball team defeated Hot Springs 35-27 to improve to 14-5 on the season.

Quardarius Jackson led the junior Rams with 11 points, and Wally Wolcott scored seven. Chris Ford tallied six, and Beau Brock notched five points. Collin Estes and Caleb Rogers scored three points each.

NATIONAL PARK PICKS UP TWO WINS

The National Park College men’s and women’s basketball teams both defeated South Arkansas Community College.

The Nighthawk women won 86-64, and the Nighthawk men won 104-69.

Although the National Park women ran away with it in the end, the teams were tied at 16-16 after 10 minutes.

National Park woke up and drained six 3-pointers in the second quarter to take a dou

ble-digit lead.

Janayi Baker knocked down a half-court 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Nighthawks a 5035 lead at halftime.

In the fourth quarter, India Atkins made a 3-pointer to become National Park’s all-time 3-point leader, and Atkins finished the game with a teamhigh 27 points. Baker and Amaya Coakley finished with 14 points each.

The Nighthawk men cruised in their game, taking control early when Patrick Punch scored National Park’s first eight points.

The Nighthawks led 46-28 at halftime, and National Park was on fire from range the entire contest, finishing 12-of-16 from 3-point land.

Punch led the Nighthawks with 20 points, and Quinntez Grimes finished with 19.

OBU LEADS ALL-SPORTS RACES

RUSSELLVIL­LE — Ouachita Baptist leads the way in the Great American Conference AllSports Commission­er’s Cup and President’s Trophy following the fall sports season.

OBU leads Harding, the 202122 All-Sports champion, by 2.25 points for the Commission­er’s Cup and by almost five percentage points in the President’s Trophy.

OBU won titles in women’s cross-country and in football in the fall. The Tigers added a second-place finish in women’s soccer and a fourth-place result in men’s cross-country and volleyball.

OBU gathered 43.5 points out of a possible 51 for an 85.3% score for the President’s Trophy.

Harding picked up a regular-season volleyball title and a second-place finish in both football and men’s cross-country. Adding a fourth-place finish in women’s cross-country, Harding tallied 41 points.

East Central finished the fall in third in both standings, and Oklahoma Baptist came in fourth in both standings.

GAC LISTS WEEKLY BASKETBALL AWARDS

RUSSELLVIL­LE — The GAC announced Harding’s Sage Hawley as its women’s basketball player of the week and Southweste­rn Oklahoma State’s Chris Braggs as its men’s basketball player of the week.

Hawley averaged 19.7 points and 10 rebounds across three games. She tallied 21 points and 13 rebounds against Arkansas Tech. She notched the sixth 90% shooting performanc­e in school history against Northweste­rn Oklahoma State, going 9-for-10 for 23 points.

Against SWOSU, she tallied 15 points and five blocks.

Braggs led SWOSU to three wins. He notched 18 points in a close win over rival NWOSU. He then scored a career-high 30 points in an overtime win over Arkansas Tech. He capped his week with a 21-point and eight-rebound performanc­e against Harding.
