Junior Rams advance to championsh­ip game

The Lakeside junior high boys basketball team defeated El Dorado 38-20 to advance to tonight’s district tournament championsh­ip game.

Beau Brock and Quardarius Jackson led the junior Rams with 11 points apiece, and Caleb Rogers scored six points. Wally Wolcott and Collin Estes each scored five points for Lakeside.

Lakeside improved to 16-6 with the win.

Before beating El Dorado, Lakeside finished the regular season with a 55-11 win over Texarkana. Jackson scored 15 points, and Brock added 13. Wolcott and Rogers scored eight points each, and Clay Counce tallied five points. Victor Altamirano notched three points.

The eighth grade Rams finished the season with a 13-2 record after beating Texarkana 37-16. Ethan Hornbeck led the way with 11 points, and Jackson chipped in 10 points. Blake Vincent, Emerson Collins and Avery McBride each scored four points.

The seventh grade Rams finished with a 14-2 record after defeating Texarkana 26-10. Hudson Choate led Lakeside with eight points, and Kiptyn Brakebill tallied six. Axl Janske and Ian Estes scored five points apiece.

JUNIOR LADY WOLVES WIN CONFERENCE TITLE

PEARCY — The Lake Hamilton junior high girls basketball team captured back-to-back regular season conference titles with a record of 20-1.

FOUNTAIN LAKE FALLS TO OZARK

FOUNTAIN LAKE — The Cobras ended the regular season with a 53-48 loss to Ozark.

Ozark took an 11-9 lead after one quarter, but Fountain Lake led 20-17 at halftime. Ozark regained a 32-28 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Evan East led Fountain Lake with 16 points, and Dillon Dettmering scored 10. Tanner Wylie added eight points for the Cobras.

Fountain Lake played Waldron Wednesday night in the district tournament at Pottsville.

GAC ANNOUNCES GOLFER OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVIL­LE — The Great American Conference announced Southern Arkansas’ Logan McDonald as the men’s golfer of the week.

The sophomore finished in a tie for 14th at the Houston Classic, marking the best finish of the 33 GAC golfers competing in the tournament.

The Muleriders finished eighth in the 17-team team event, and McDonald’s best round came when he made four birdies en route to a 3-under par 69.

GAC LISTS TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVIL­LE — Southern Arkansas’ Lena Milosevic claimed GAC women’s tennis player of the week honors.

The senior collected wins from No. 2 positions as the Muleriders defeated the Reddies 6-1. She played with Annika Berrendorf to capture a 6-1 doubles win. She bounced back in singles to defeat Kristina Kozlova 2-6, 7-6, 10-7.

GAC AWARDS WEEKLY BASEBALL HONORS

RUSSELLVIL­LE — The GAC announced that Arkansas-Monticello’s Kirk Woolf, Harding’s Coulton Doyle and Southeaste­rn Oklahoma State’s Jake Miller shared co-player of the week honors, and Southern Arkansas’ Jeremy Adorno won the pitcher of the week award.

Adorno limited Missouri Western State to a first-inning single en route to his first win of the season. After the single, he retired 13 straight batters. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter in his sixth scoreless effort in 19 career starts.

Woolf went 10-for-17 in Arkansas-Monticello’s four-game series with St. Cloud State. He hit three home runs in the series opener and notched another home run in the series finale. He totaled 27 total bases.

Doyle hit three home runs and drove in 11 runs in Harding’s three-game sweep of Southwest Baptist. He tallied a grand slam in the series.

Miller reached base 11 times in 15 plate appearance­s in a fourgame series against Colorado Christian.

GAC LISTS BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVIL­LE — Henderson State’s Alvin Miles shared men’s co-basketball player of the week honors with Southern Nazarene’s Tyler McGhie, and SEOSU’s Caitlin Kobiske won women’s player of the week.

Miles averaged 23 points on 59.3% shooting across two wins. Against Southweste­rn Oklahoma State, Miles became the first Reddie in the GAC era to have at least 20 points, five assists and five steals. He tallied a season-high 24 points against Northweste­rn Oklahoma State.

McGhie helped Southern Nazarene extend its win streak to 10 as he averaged 22.5 points per game in two home wins. He leads the GAC in 3-point field goals and 3-point percentage.

Kobiske set career highs in scoring when she scored 38 points against Southern Arkansas and 43 points against Arkansas-Monticello.
