Donald Menzies

-

Donald “Don” Menzies, age 77, of Hot Springs, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023.

He was born on May 8, 1945, in Lake Stevens, Wash., the son of Robert James Menzies and Vivian Rodland Menzies. On July 1, 1972, he married the love of his life, Janet. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Don was an ordained minister with the Assembly of God and a member of Legacy Church. He was a United States Army veteran. He graduated from Bible School-Northwest College in Kirkland, Wash., and received a Master’s in Counseling at Henderson State College in Arkadelphia. After college, he went to work for Hillcrest Children’s Home here in Hot Springs, where he worked for 34 years until retiring. Most of Don’s life has been in service for the Lord, so after retiring, he couldn’t just sit, so he started going to retirement and nursing homes to share the gospel with others. His love for people and wanting to share the gospel with others led him to help with the beginning of Samaritan Ministries, Hot Springs, where he also served on the board. Don had a servant’s heart, serving wherever the Lord led him. He also served over the Junior Bible Quiz of Arkansas.

Don and Janet met while working at Hillcrest, married and started their family. During their time at Hillcrest, they held many different positions, so sometimes it might just be their little family, or they could find themselves parents of a house full of children. Together their lives have touched many children that have lived at Hillcrest Children’s Home. Don was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to many people, who will all greatly miss him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Janet Menzies; two sons, Chris Menzies and his wife, Melia, and Anthony Menzies; one daughter, Christina Temple and her husband, James; three grandchildren, Tessa Meeks, Chay Menzies and Amber Sedano; four great-grandchildren, Angelo Sedano, LeeJay Sedano, Japeth Sedano and Isabel Meeks; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jim and Lynne Menzies and Mike Menzies; one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Gerrit Vaessen; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, at Legacy Church, with visitation at 2 p.m., prior to the service.

Honorary pallbearers are Chuck Lagan, Tony Adams, Gary Meeks, Kyle Outler, Bill Anderson and Mike Louton.
