Alleged burglar caught in act by homeowner, detained at gunpoint

- STEVEN MROSS

A local man was arrested Friday evening after he was allegedly caught in the act of burglarizing a home and detained at gunpoint by the homeowner who later noticed he was wearing some of the homeowner’s clothing.

Darin James Webb II, 30, who lists a Shady Heights Road address, was taken into custody shortly before 7 p.m. and charged with a felony count of residential burglary, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and had a misdemeanor warrant for first-degree criminal mischief from another alleged incident earlier this year.

Webb, who lists no prior felony history, remained in custody Tuesday in lieu of a $6,000 bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, around 6:30 p.m. Friday, Garland County sheriff’s Deputy Tre’vonn Reedy was dispatched to a possible burglary in progress at a residence in the 200 block of Warwick Road.

While en route to the residence, a dispatcher advised Reedy that the homeowner, 38, had the burglar at gunpoint and that the burglar may have possibly charged at him with a knife.

Reedy arrived and spoke to the owner, who stated he had pulled up at his residence and noticed there was “a flashlight moving around in his home.” By the time he got out of his vehicle, he saw a man, later identified as Webb, walking out from the back of the house.

He said he confronted Webb and asked him why he was inside his home and Webb allegedly told him it was “his home that he had just bought.” The owner said he noticed Webb had a knife attached to his belt, so he held him at gunpoint until deputies got there.

As the deputies were patting down Webb, the owner noticed Webb was wearing a red Arkansas Razorbacks jacket, a wool-lined vest and an Apple watch that the owner noted belonged to him. The items were gathered as evidence.

Webb was taken into custody and was found to have an active warrant for criminal mischief that was issued on Feb. 1.

According to the affidavit on the mischief charge, on Jan. 26, a local woman filed a report with the sheriff’s office regarding a man who had been on her property in the 300 block of Longpoint Drive.

She said she woke up and saw a white male on her property and called 911. Deputies had arrived and located Webb and took him into custody at that time for misdemeanor criminal trespassing.

On Feb. 1, the woman’s husband contacted investigators to report he had security camera footage of Webb throwing a hand-carved dreamcatcher, valued at $750, against the side of the residence, breaking it in half. He had also attempted to throw several wooden logs through the windows of the residence.
