Fight between cousins ends with felony arrest of one for drugs, resisting arrest

ROYAL — A fight between two cousins Friday night ended with one facing felony and misdemeanor charges after drugs were allegedly found on him and he briefly scuffled with Garland County sheriff’s deputies.

Jamario J. Collins, 32, of 136 Rocking Chair Trail in Royal, was taken into custody at his residence shortly before 9 p.m. and charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance, meth, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and obstructing governmental operations.

Collins remained in custody Tuesday on a $5,000 bond from the local charges and a zero bond hold out of Boone County, Mo., and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court. According to court records, he was previously convicted on Dec. 9, 2019, in Lincoln County of second-degree battery, stemming from an attack on correctional facility staff in 2016, and was sentenced to one year in prison.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly before 8:15 p.m., sheriff’s Deputies Lonnie Yarbrough and Candice Presley and Cpl. Stacy Morgan all responded to the Rocking Chair Trail residence regarding a physical disturbance, with Presley arriving first and stating she had two Black males lying on the ground.

Yarbrough arrived and made contact with the alleged victim, 32, who stated he was “beat up” by his cousin, identified as Collins. Deputies noted the victim had both of his eyes “swollen shut,” swelling on his forehead and a bloody nose.

The victim indicated at the scene he wanted to press charges against Collins for “beating him up.” LifeNet responded and transported the victim to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs for treatment.

Morgan and Presley made contact with Collins who initially refused to identify himself. He was taken into custody at that point for obstructing and during a search of his person deputies allegedly found a baggie with 6.5 grams of what later tested positive for meth.

While walking Collins to Yarbrough’s unit, he allegedly began to resist by “dragging his feet” and refused to get in the back of the unit. With the assistance of Morgan and Presley, Yarbrough was able to get him inside, but not before he allegedly kicked at Presley.

As of Tuesday, Collins had not been charged in connection with the alleged battery of his cousin.
