A local woman was arrested on a felony battery charge Sunday night after allegedly causing injuries to her 10-year-old daughter, hitting her with a metal broom handle and cutting her with scissors.

Takeva Olivia Buckley, 34, of 431 Lake Hamilton Drive, was taken into custody at her residence shortly before 9 p.m. and charged with second-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Buckley, who lists no prior criminal history, was being held on a zero bond and was set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday, Hot Springs police Officer Shannon Steed responded to the Lake Hamilton Drive residence for a welfare check on a juvenile female.

Steed made contact with Buckley and explained about the welfare check and Buckley reportedly allowed her to check on her daughter, 10, who was in her bedroom.

Steed reportedly noted the girl had small lacerations on her left forearm and the left palm of her hand. The girl reportedly told Steed when she arrived home from her father’s residence, her mother, Buckley, was “in a bad mood” and started yelling at her.

Buckley stated she yelled at her daughter because she was “being disrespectful” and then her daughter kicked her.

Buckley reportedly left the room and returned with a metal broom handle and struck her daughter a few times on her arm and hand. The juvenile stated Buckley also grabbed a pair of scissors at one point and “scratched the top” of her left forearm.

After further investigation, Buckley was taken into custody without incident.
