EARTH ANGEL

-

Every part of an aluminum can is recyclable, and with a quick turnaround for use of materials, it can be made into a new item and back on the shelf in as little as 60 days, according to the Hot Springs Solid Waste Department. “There are many ways to be creative in recycling, and there is no limit to how an individual can help,” it says.

By recycling one aluminum can, enough energy will be saved to power a 100-watt light bulb for 20 hours or save 95% of the energy used to make the same amount of aluminum from its original source. In 1972, 53 million pounds of aluminum cans were recycled. Today, that amount is exceeded weekly.

Twenty years ago, recycling 19 aluminum cans would make one pound. Today’s aluminum cans are lighter and it takes 29 aluminum cans to make one pound, which means that less aluminum is wasted and more energy and other environmental resources are saved.
