Two killed on Long Island in alleged murder-suicide

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

A man and woman were killed late Thursday in an apparent murder-suicide at a residence in the 300 block of Long Island Drive, the Garland County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

The man, identified as Jordan Nutt, 35, and the woman, identified as Bailey Nutt, 26, were both found unresponsive inside the home with apparent gunshot wounds, Deputy Courtney Kizer, the GCSO’s public information officer, said in a news release.

The deaths were the second of two apparent murder-suicides investigated by the sheriff’s department on Thursday; the first, which is not connected, occurred about 12 hours earlier on Buxton Loop (see story on Page One).

The release said the Garland County Communications Center received a call in reference to a shooting at a residence in the 300 block of Long Island Drive at 11:24 p.m. Thursday. Sheriff ’s deputies and investigators, and LifeNet personnel, who responded to the scene found them inside the residence, the release said.

Deputies spoke to witnesses at the scene who said the man came to the home to speak to the woman, identified as the witnesses’ daughter. While speaking to her they could hear them begin to argue and then saw the man shoot the woman, the release said.

“All witnesses immediately called the police, evacuated the home for their safety, and heard a second gunshot,” Kizer said in the release.

The Garland County coroner’s office responded to the scene and pronounced both deceased, she said, and both bodies were sent to the Arkansas Crime Lab for autopsies.

“This investigation is still active at this time

pending the results from the Crime Lab,” Kizer said.

According to court records, Jordan Drew Nutt, then 34, and Bailey Dawn Tauth, then 25, both of Hot Springs, obtained a marriage license on May 13, 2022.
