A local woman was arrested Thursday on a felony battery charge after allegedly hitting her 65-year-old grandmother in the face with a toaster pastries box and scratching her arms.

Peyton Renee Wells, 26, who lists the Days Inn, 2208 Central Ave., as her address, was arrested there shortly after 4 p.m. and charged with second-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and also had a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear.

Wells was being held on a zero bond and was set to appear Friday in Garland County District Court.

A court order barring her from contact with her grandmother was also issued Friday.

According to court records, Wells was previously arrested on May 26, 2022, of misdemeanor aggravated assault on a family or household member also involving her grandmother which was later withdrawn, but she pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct in the incident and was sentenced to five days in jail.

She was previously charged with felony second-degree domestic battery on Nov. 13, 2017, also involving her grandmother which was later amended to misdemeanor third-degree domestic battery and she pleaded no contest on July 19, 2018, where she was sentenced to one year of supervised probation and ordered to undergo anger management classes. The case was set for a review on July 19, 2022, but Wells failed to appear and a warrant was issued which was served Thursday.

According to the probable cause affidavit on Thursday’s arrest, shortly before 4 p.m., Hot Springs police Officer 1st Class Jamie Ugartechea responded to the Days Inn regarding a battery and made contact with the alleged victim, 65, who stated her granddaughter, identified as Wells, had “struck her in the face” with the box. She also alleged Wells had “scratched her arms using her hands.”

The officer noted the victim had “visible redness to her facial area and her hands” and a spot of dried blood.

He made contact with Wells in the motel room and took her into custody without incident.
