Hot Springs Music Club to present free program March 12
The Hot Springs Music Club will present a free public program at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 12, at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church.
Performers will include the Jubilee Bells, directed by Kathie White; The Village Chorale, directed by Tom Bolton; Elsen Portugal, pianist; and Kristen Bomberger, violinist.
A news release said The Village Chorale will perform four representative pieces from their upcoming April 25 Spring Concert, entitled “Metamorphosis: Awake Our Souls to Sing Once More.”
“Music for the concert was chosen to represent how fresh musical arrangements and settings can give additional life and meaning to existing texts familiar to most of us,” the release said.
The handbell group will play two hymn arrangements, “O Worship the King” and “I Am Thine, O Lord.”
Portugal will perform two “Ponteios” by Brazilian composer Camargo Guarnieri.
Bomberger will play two movements from the unaccompanied Sonata for Solo Violin No. 2 in A minor, BWV 1003, by J.S. Bach.
The program is part of a series of free programs presented by the Hot Springs Music Club throughout the year. Bolton said in the release that the club “has as its mission the promotion of the musical culture of its members and to foster in the community an increased understanding and love of all types of music.” It also awards annual music scholarships to Garland County students pursuing music-related degrees in higher education. Membership is open to anyone interested in music.
HSMC has been affiliated since its founding in 1951 with the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Arkansas Federation of Music Clubs, the release said.
